NFL Analyst Rips Josh Allen for ‘Trying To Make a Viral Play’ After Bills QB’s Game-Losing Mistake vs. Texans

Josh Allen was sacked eight times as the Houston Texans beat the Buffalo Bills 23-19, with Skip Bayless criticizing the Bills' offensive struggles.

The Buffalo Bills entered Houston needing stability, but instead found themselves swallowed by a Texan defense that refused to break. What followed was a night marked by pressure, turnovers, and a quarterback who could not escape the weight of the moment. The full picture of how it unraveled becomes clearer when examining the criticism that followed.

How Josh Allen’s Costly Decision Became the Turning Point

NFL Analyst Skip Bayless delivered a sharp public critique of Josh Allen after the loss, writing on X: “Josh Allen couldn’t do it by himself. Held the ball trying to make a viral play, took too many sacks (8), made a poor throw on the final 4th down – intercepted.”

His assessment echoed the frustration surrounding an offense that never found rhythm.

The Texans’ 23-19 win was powered by a defense that overwhelmed the Bills throughout the night. The Texans recorded eight sacks and forced three turnovers, consistently disrupting the Bills’ attempts to build momentum.

Will Anderson Jr. was central to that dominance, finishing with 2.5 sacks and frequently collapsing the pocket. Davis Mills kept the Texans steady with two first-half touchdown passes while moving to 3-0 as the starter with C. J. Stroud out due to a concussion.

Calen Bullock delivered two defining blows to the Bills. First, he ripped the ball away from Khalil Shakir to set up a field goal. Later, he intercepted Allen to shut down the Bills’ final push. The Texans improved to 6-5 and inched closer to the AFC playoff race.

The Bills’ offensive profile entering the game provides additional context.

According to the PFSN’s Offense Impact metric, the Bills had an Offense Impact Score of 85.5, ranking fifth in the league. They carried a B grade and an overall rank of 75 for the 2025 season.

Their 7-4 record reflected a team capable of strong output, but their performance in Houston fell far short of those numbers. Repeated sacks pushed the Bills into long yardage situations and stalled drives before they could develop.

Even the wild fourth-and-27 conversion that included a catch by Joshua Palmer, followed by a lateral to Shakir, could not save them. A false start by Dion Dawkins pushed the Bills back again, and Allen’s final interception ended the comeback attempt.

James Cook III delivered a milestone by surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the third straight season and scoring his 36th career touchdown. However, the team’s turnover margin continued trending downward since Week 5, and that issue surfaced again against the Texans.

Bayless’ criticism matched what unfolded on the field. Allen tried to salvage plays that collapsed around him, and those decisions often turned into adverse outcomes. Six of the eight sacks he absorbed came against four-man rushes, which highlighted breakdowns in protection, combined with the Texans ‘ top-ranked defense.
