Naomi Osaka booked her place in the second round of Wimbledon 2025 with a 6-4, 7-6(4) win over Australian qualifier Talia Gibson. This was the 27-year-old’s first straight-set win at the grass-court Major since her 6-3, 6-4 win over Katie Boulter in 2018.
“I think just making my match today, playing someone that I’ve never played before, and also getting over the first-round nerves was a little tricky,” Osaka told reporters after the match. “I’m glad that I did it, and I hope that I have many more matches to come. I know the grass season hasn’t been particularly amazing for me this year, but I’m really happy with how much I fight every match.”
