WATCH: Leylah Fernandez Can’t Stop Laughing as Viral Trend With Father Goes Hilariously Wrong

Leylah Fernandez attempted to recreate the viral "Bugatti" trend alongside her father, Jorge, who has been her coach since she turned pro in 2019.

Leylah Fernandez attempted to recreate the viral “Bugatti” trend alongside her father, Jorge. Since turning professional in 2019, the Canadian has relied on her father as her coach, while also bringing in Romain Deridder and Julian Alonso as part of her support team.

Originally from Ecuador, Jorge was a former semi-professional football player who transitioned to coaching tennis for his daughter. He also coaches his younger daughter, Bianca Jolie.

Leylah Fernandez Attempts To Recreate Viral “Bugatti” Trend With Father Jorge

Fernandez, who recently concluded her grass-court season, has been enjoying her time away from tennis. She took to social media to share a delightful video of herself and her father participating in the popular TikTok trend, “Bugatti.”

In this trend, one person pretends to drive while being playfully yanked off-screen by another, all set to the backdrop of American rapper Ace Hood’s song “Bugatti,” featuring rappers Future and Rick Ross.

During their recreation of the trend, Fernandez was the first to be pulled forward by her father, and the execution went smoothly.

However, when Jorge attempted to replicate the action, he could not do the same at the former World No. 13, and the outcome took a humorous turn. In the process, he also managed to crack his back, remarking that it left him feeling much better.

“I didn’t do the sunglasses. But I think that’s okay. My back just cracked,” Jorge said.

“Did it feel good though?” Fernandez asked.

“It’s feeling better. Do we need another take?” Jorge replied.

On the tennis side of things, Fernandez last participated in the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, where she registered a win over wild card Hannah Klugman in the first round before falling to Laura Siegemund in the second round.

“My Dad Reinforced That” – Leylah Fernandez Details How Father, Jorge, Taught Her To Respect the Mental Side of Tennis

In 2023, while speaking to the press, Fernandez stated that mental toughness and resilience are more important to her than the physical aspects of tennis. She expressed that she was “grateful” to her father, Jorge, who also serves as her coach, for instilling this belief in her from a young age.

“For me, the mental to the physical is three to one. Mental is extremely important. I’m very grateful my parents, especially my dad, has reinforced that. He hasn’t really taught me about tennis or technique but more of the mental side of the sport,” Fernandez said.

The former World No. 13 acknowledged that while mental strength is essential in tennis, it can be “hard.”

“Because it’s hard. You’re all alone out there on the court. Most of the time you don’t have a coach with you, or the coach can’t talk to you during points. You have to figure some things out, you have to be your own cheerleader, own biggest critic, own biggest supporter,” she continued.

Fernandez expressed her happiness with the mental strength values her father imparted, as they have been instrumental in her performance during matches.

“I’m just happy he taught me those values from a young age and that I was able to kind of implement that now,” Fernandez added.

Looking ahead, Fernandez is set to kick off her hard-court season at the 2025 Citi DC Open, scheduled to take place from Jul. 21 to Jul. 27, 2025, at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington, D.C.

The Canadian last participated in the WTA 500 tournament in 2023. She had defeated Varvara Gracheva and Katie Boulter in the qualifiers to advance to the main draw. There, she overcame Bernarda Pera in the first round before being eliminated by the eventual runner-up, Maria Sakkari, in the second round.
