Venus Williams joked that her recent doubles partner Alexandra Eala needs to play with Serena to "complete the Williams sisters."

When you are a rising star in the tennis world, sharing the court with the sport’s all-time greats is a dream come true. For 21-year-old Alexandra Eala, her recent doubles partnership with tennis royalty Venus Williams has already been a milestone. Venus Williams Teases Alexandra Eala Over ‘Completing’ the Williams Sisters

Following their recent doubles campaign at the National Bank Open in Toronto, the pair shared an entertaining exchange during a joint press conference. In the Round of 32, the duo lost to Liudmila Samsonova and Miyu Kato, 4-6, 3-6.

During the presser, a reporter asked Venus about the highly anticipated reunion with Serena. Venus quickly gave the spotlight to her current partner, suggesting that Eala’s doubles resume was missing the 23-time Grand Slam winner.

“Yeah, I think Alex has got to put on her list to play with Serena one day (laughing)… Then she can complete the Williams sisters,” said the seven-time Grand Slam champion.

Venus also addressed the elephant in the room. The 14-time Grand Slam doubles-winning duo had originally set their sights on a Wimbledon return, which unfortunately did not materialize as Serena’s right knee was injured.

Serena and Venus have now received a wildcard into the WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati, Serena’s first tournament since getting injured. After she retired from professional tennis at the 2022 US Open, the 44-year-old chose to come back to the court this year on the grass court at the Queen’s Club.

Meanwhile, Venus has been in the circuit, teaming up with Diana Shnaider in Washington, reaching the quarter-finals. The 46-year-old then joined forces with the Filipina, whom she’d already played with this year in Bad Homburg.

For Eala, the opportunity to play alongside Venus is like a front-row seat to tennis history. About the Williams sisters reuniting, Eala said, “For me, it’s super inspiring. The things that the Williams sisters have done for tennis is incredible. They just keep doing it and keep helping us, especially the women in sports.”

Eala has had a magnificent year so far in 2026, winning the Mubadala DC Open and defeating WTA Top 10 players like Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, Iga Swiatek, Elina Svitolina, and Naomi Osaka.

Next up, at the Canadian Open, Eala will face Caty McNally in the Round of 32. And the Williams sisters will be preparing for Cincinnati.
