Leading up to their mixed doubles campaign at the New York Major, Williams competed at the Citi DC Open and the Cincinnati Open. Meanwhile, Opelka competed in Washington, D.C., the Canadian Open, and in Cincinnati.
What Did Venus Williams’ Fiancé Andrea Preti Say About Her US Open Mixed Doubles Partner Reilly Opelka?
Both Williams and Opelka received a wild card entry into the 2025 US Open mixed doubles event. However, they lost in the first round, with a score of 2-4, 4-5(4) to the pair of Karolína Muchová and Andrey Rublev.
After Williams and Opelka’s mixed doubles run ended, Preti took to social media to share a picture of himself and the 27-year-old chatting at Arthur Ashe Stadium, writing that Opelka “rocks.”
“@reillyopelka You rock bro 🔨🔨🔨🔨,” Preti captioned his Instagram story.

Before their 2025 US Open mixed doubles run, both Opelka and Williams competed at the 2025 Cincinnati Open. Williams, who was granted a wild card into the main draw, lost in the first round to Jéssica Bouzas Maneiro.
On the other hand, at the ATP Masters 1000 hard court tournament in Ohio, Opelka defeated Hugo Dellien and sixth-seed Alex de Minaur before being eliminated by Francisco Comesaña in the third round.
‘She Was Always There, Always in My Corner’ – Opelka on His Friendship With Williams
Before starting his mixed doubles campaign at the 2025 US Open alongside Williams, Opelka spoke about his friendship with the former World No. 1. He mentioned that he and Williams share many common interests, which have helped strengthen their bond.
“We both have a lot in common. We both love tennis. We both love art. We both live in South Florida. We practice together in West Palm Beach a few times, and then we’re traveling and playing a lot of the same tournaments, and going to a lot of museums and art galleries, and we’re foodies. So, it’s a great friendship. I’ve been so lucky,” Opelka said.
Opelka shared that during a period when he was away from the tour injured, and struggling mentally, it was Williams who supported him. He described the seven-time Grand Slam champion as an “amazing friend.”
“When I was injured and not in a great spot, just a spot of doubt or not sure what I would do with myself, she was one of the few people who was always there, always in my corner, and just an amazing friend to have. There’s a reason why she has won so many Slams, won Wimbledon a million times, and played in the hardest era, too,” he added.

Williams’ best performances at the New York Major came in 2000 and 2001, when she won the title by defeating Lindsay Davenport and her sister Serena Williams in the finals, respectively.
Meanwhile, Opelka’s best result at his home Grand Slam came in 2021, when he defeated Kwon Soon-woo, Lorenzo Musetti, and Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first three rounds before losing to Lloyd Harris in the fourth round.
