Fans Not Happy With Kateřina Siniaková’s Absence From US Open Mixed Doubles Draw After Jannik Sinner’s Withdrawal

As per the rules, a player could not team up with someone else once the main draw of a tournament has been released unless the draw had to be redone due to the withdrawal of seeded pairs. Hence, Siniaková was removed from the US Open mixed doubles event after Jannik Sinner pulled out.

However, there were some fans who were not pleased with the absence of the Czech, who has been one of the best doubles players over the past few years, with one fan calling it a disgrace.

“What a disgrace,” the fan wrote.

Another fan said:

“Was it really that difficult to find a player to team up with Siniakova? I’m sure there were people willing to join forces with such a renowned doubles player”

One fan claimed that not giving Siniaková a chance to team up with someone else was “despicable”.

“Not giving Siniakova a chance to repair is despicable,” the individual wrote.

Another fan claimed that the mixed doubles event in Flushing Meadows would lose credibility due to Siniaková’s absence.

“Was Katerina given the priority to replace her partner? Can’t imagine she would give up her spot or any male player turn down the opportunity to play w/her. She is the best doubles player this past decade! If she’s not in the draw this event loses credibility,” the fan’s comment read.

One fan wrote:

“Poor Siniakova being tossed aside like an unwanted toy.”

One fan called the prospect of having the mixed doubles event at the US Open without Siniaková “ridiculous”.

“Ridiculous to even have this event without Siniaková,” the fan’s comment read.

Collins and Harrison, who replaced Sinner and Siniaková in the mixed doubles draw, have already booked their place in the quarterfinals after beating Alexander Zverev and Belinda Bencic 4-0, 5-3. Here, they will take on Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton.
