Ben Shelton Addresses the Public Reaction After Hard-Launching Their Relationship
While speaking with the New York Post, Shelton opened up about the surprising public reaction after going public with his relationship with Rodman in March.
“It’s been great, obviously,” the American tennis star said.
Shelton admitted that he was taken aback by how much attention the post received, even though he appreciated the response.
“I feel like, you know, posting your girlfriend on Instagram is a more normal thing. I guess because of who it is, is why people went nuts a little bit,” Shelton said. “But yeah, kinda crazy how much it did blow up… and I realized, ‘wow, people care about my life that much.’ But yeah, [we’re] happy for sure.”
On the tennis front, Shelton, after bowing out in the fourth round of the French Open, followed it up with back-to-back early exits from two ATP tournaments.
Ben Shelton Suffered 3rd Consecutive Exit in June
After a fourth-round exit at the French Open in early June, falling to Carlos Alcaraz in a hard-fought 6-7(8), 3-6, 6-4, 4-6 battle, Shelton went on to suffer two more defeats in as many ATP men’s tour events.
Next, the American had an impressive run at the Stuttgart Open, also known as the BOSS Open, reaching the semifinals. He cruised past Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Jiri Lehecka in straight sets to set up a semifinal clash against Alexander Zverev.
Despite putting up a tough fight, he bowed out of the ATP 250 tournament after losing to the German in straight sets, both decided by tiebreaks: 6-7(8), 6-7(1).
Later, at the Queen’s Club, fate once again didn’t favour the World No. 10. He suffered a first-round exit from the ATP 500 event after a defeat on Tuesday, June 17, against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in straight sets, 6-7(5), 6-7(4).
