Nearly two weeks into the 2026 season, a wave of health and injury concerns has already emerged across both the ATP and WTA tours. Fans Worried As Taylor Fritz, Emma Raducanu, Jessica Pegula and Others’ Injury Concerns Flash Early in 2026

Fritz revealed ahead of the United Cup that a knee problem from last season was still troubling him and that he had not fully recovered. That consequently appeared to take a toll on his form, as the American dropped two of his three singles matches at the event, including defeats to Argentina’s Sebastián Báez and Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals.

Four-time Grand Slam champion Osaka is currently dealing with flu symptoms and is hopeful of recovering in time for the Australian Open. She was last seen in action at the United Cup, where Japan exited in the group stage.

Meanwhile, World No. 6 Pegula was spotted with her thigh heavily taped during a practice session ahead of her Brisbane International quarterfinal. Despite the concern, Pegula reached the semifinals after defeating Liudmila Samsonova.

Raducanu had been sidelined since early October because of what she termed minor bone bruising in her right foot, and the issue resurfaced at the start of her season. The 23-year-old was forced to withdraw from her much-anticipated opener against Osaka before taking the court against Greece’s Maria Sakkari. She moved freely for most of the match but showed clear signs of rust in between, eventually losing 3–6, 6–3, 1–6.

Beyond those already mentioned, Czech standout Jiří Lehečka is also dealing with a serious ankle injury. The problem became evident at the Brisbane International, where he was forced to retire after dropping the opening set against American Sebastian Korda. Lehečka has since withdrawn from the Adelaide International and will be hoping to recover in time for Melbourne.

The growing list of health concerns on tour has unsettled many tennis fans, prompting them to voice their worries on X. One fan wrote:

“Fritz can’t play consecutive matches. Noskova is playing with one thigh. Pegula can barely practice. Jiri retired from his first tournament back. Naomi is sick. Rybakina & Raducanu are barely recovering from their last injury. Entire tour is finished & it’s not even mid-January.”

“So many tennis players with wrapped up limbs we are two weeks into the season,” the second said.

The surge in injuries has often been attributed to the hectic tour schedule and the physical demands it places on players. Those concerns, long voiced by players themselves, have now been echoed by fans across online platforms.

“The problem is tennis doesn’t have a “season”. If your season lasts 47 of the 52 weeks in a year it’s just a continuous slog,” one wrote.

Another commented, “The schedule is insane. They barely get a month off. There’s really no time to condition their bodies.”

“and the wta doesn’t even care,” a fan weighed in.

“one of the few times i’m glad coco doesn’t play every damn tournament there is,” another said.

Attention now turns to whether players can recover in time to compete at full strength at the Australian Open. The 2026 season is well underway, and key lead-up events to the Australian Open, such as the United Cup, ASB Classic, and Brisbane International, have entered their knockout stages.
