Spending vacation time together is not the only bond that Taylor Townsend and Naomi Osaka share. The Japanese player constantly tracks the American’s social media activity and reacts to any new post. Recently, Townsend shared pictures in a beautiful black outfit, with Osaka being one of the first to appreciate with a nice reaction on Instagram.
Recently, Townsend gave another example of their camaraderie off the court, as she mentioned Osaka on her Instagram story, which had the caption, “@naomiosaka on the fit because I miss her.

Osaka reshared the same post on her Instagram story. The Japanese player did not provide a caption but used the “holding back the tears” and “heart” emojis, showing her love and appreciation for the American player.

On court, Townsend and Osaka had excellent seasons, with the American excelling in doubles, while the Japanese player made her comeback on the singles court.
Townsend continued her excellent doubles run alongside Katerina Siniakova, as the pair reached two Grand Slam finals this year, winning the trophy in Melbourne, and finishing runner-up in New York. Townsend also won the WTA 1000 event in Dubai with Siniakova, along with titles in Washington (with Zhang Shuai) and Japan (with Kristina Mladenovic).

However, Townsend made significant progress on her singles performances as well, as she reached the fourth round of the US Open, matching her career-best singles performance at a Major.
On the other hand, Osaka finally found her groove back on the Tour as the Japanese player reached her first final in almost two years, when she reached the ASB Classic final in Auckland but had to retire mid-match due to injury.
Despite starting on a promising note, Osaka had a dip in form and struggled with injuries as she came into the North American hard-court swing. This is where the Japanese player made a coaching change by parting ways with Patrick Mouratoglou and hiring Tomasz Wiktorowski.
This brought instantaneous results, as she had a runner-up finish at the Canadian Open and reached the semifinal at the US Open. With her ranking now in the Top 20, she will be able to avoid the bigger seeds in the opening rounds in Majors, and can potentially make deep runs at the events in 2026.
