Taylor Townsend Opens Up About Her Friendship with Naomi Osaka

Townsend, the World No. 7 in doubles, has entered the Miami Open as a singles wildcard and, in doubles, with Siniaková; the duo was the second seed. Before her homeland’s tournament, Townsend delivered notable performances in the ATX Open, reaching the final round and winning the doubles title with Storm Hunter.

After that, she entered Indian Wells in both categories and won the doubles final with Siniaková. In Miami, the duo is set to face No. 3 seeds Luisa Stefani and Gabriela Dabrowski in the semifinal round on March 27.

The American star recently appeared on “The Changeover Podcast,” with Justin Roberts and Jody Maginley, and shared her thoughts on the friendship she shares with Osaka. Townsend admitted she was hesitant to join the trip at first since she barely knew Osaka, but as their bond blossomed, her doubts went away, and she now calls it one of the best adventures.

Apart from that, Townsend also revealed a brief meeting she had with Osaka in Cincinnati, during which she consoled the latter and shared how she reluctantly had to cut the trip short.

She added, “The Turk trip was very interesting. I didn’t know what to expect. I was really shocked that I was invited. I was like, ‘Huh?’ It’s such a tossup to invite a stranger on a vacation. I was kind of hesitant. I told her this; I’m like, girl I was not going to come because I didn’t know what I was getting myself into, like, I didn’t know who was going to be there.”

Townsend continued, “But it ended up being the best trip ever. It was the second vacation I’ve ever taken in my life. She’s actually really cool and she’s f****** hilarious. But it’s the way that she talks. You have to be listening because she doesn’t like talk loud and when she speaks, she speaks. She not gonna say it multiple times. Like you got to catch it when you catch it.”
