Taylor Townsend Sends a Message After Making the Main Draw of Wimbledon Singles for the First Time as a Qualifier

Taylor Townsend shared her thoughts after making it to the main draw of the Wimbledon Championships' singles event for the first time as a qualifier.

Taylor Townsend recently shared her thoughts after making it to the main draw of the Wimbledon Championships’ singles event for the first time as a qualifier. Her best results in singles at the London Major have been reaching the second round twice, in 2018 and 2019.
Last year, Townsend faced the 25th seed, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, in the first round but lost 7-6(4), 6-1.

Taylor Townsend Reaches Wimbledon Championships’ Main Draw as a Qualifier

Townsend earned her place in the singles main draw at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships by winning her qualifying matches. In the first and second qualifying rounds, she defeated compatriots Louisa Chirico 6-4, 6-2, and Hina Inoue 6-3, 6-1. She then advanced to the main draw by overcoming Céline Naef 6-3, 6-3.

After her victory over Naef, Townsend took to social media to share a video expressing that she is “excited” to be at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.

“What’s up, everybody? So, I am here back at Wimbledon, 2025 edition. I’m excited to be here. It’s been a bumpy road to get here. Had been out for two months since Miami with a concussion, came back at Roland Garros. Had a great Roland Garros run,” Townsend said.

The 29-year-old revealed that she had been rehabbing in Portugal after injuring her ankle while competing at the 2025 Città di Grado Tennis Cup ahead of the London Major. She mentioned that her return to the court has not been an easy journey.

“And I was playing a 125 in Italy and ended up rolling my ankle in my first round, so I had to pull out of that match. I’ve been rehabbing in Portugal with John, and it just hasn’t been an easy journey really at all,” she continued.

Townsend reiterated that she is “excited” to be back at  Wimbledon and expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to compete at the Grand Slam event.

“So I’m really excited to be here, and it really gives me a high level of gratitude when I’m here and be able to compete. There have been so many things this year that have been giving me an opportunity to really kind of sit back and reflect, and gratitude keeps coming up. I’m really excited to be here,” Townsend added.

Taylor Townsend Won the Women’s Doubles Event at Wimbledon Last Year

In 2024, Townsend won the women’s doubles title at the Wimbledon Championships. She partnered with KateÅ™ina Siniaková, and the duo entered the tournament as the fourth seed. They began their campaign with a victory over Rebeka Masarova and Linda Nosková, triumphing with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-6(5) in the first round.

Building on their momentum, Townsend and Siniaková overcame Elixane Lechemia and Olivia Gadecki 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. She then eliminated the pair of Leylah Fernandez and Ena Shibahara 6-2, 7-6(3) in the second and third rounds, respectively.

In the quarterfinals, the American-Czech duo defeated the ninth-seeded team of Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jeļena Ostapenko, winning in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-3. They then secured their place in the final after registering a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over the top seeds Hsieh Su-wei and Elise Mertens in the semifinals.

In the championship match, Townsend and Siniaková faced the second-seeded team of Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe. They defeated them with a scoreline of 7–6(5), 7–6(1) to win the women’s doubles title at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. This victory marked Townsend’s first Grand Slam women’s doubles title and Siniaková’s ninth.
