Taylor Townsend Explains Why She Doesn’t Travel With Her Son Adyn

Townsend is currently competing at the 2025 French Open. Her singles campaign ended early with a first-round defeat to Elisabetta Cocciaretto. Nevertheless, she continued her dominant run in doubles, advancing to the quarterfinals with Katerina Siniaková. The pair will next face Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunić on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old recently sat for an interview with Tennis Channel’s Prakash Amritraj and shed light on the reasons for not traveling with the four-year-old on tour.

“I mean for real, because this life is not easy. And a lot of people ask me, why don’t you travel with him, I’m like “This is hard for us!” It’s really hard for us, I mean we jump timezones going from hotel to hotel, new place to new place, week after week. Living out of the suitcase like no home cooked meal, because you eat out every night or Uber eat or whatever,” she said.

The American admitted that although being away from her son is tough, not having him on tour prioritizes his stability and routine, which could build a better future for them both.

“This is a hard life for us, so it’s very difficult for them. So I make the sacrifice, personally I am like, rather you have your routine, be home and have some solid structure. That’s important for me for his development. So it’s a hard sacrifice that I make but you know, he is a great kid and I feel like it’s paying off and I just pray that he knows why I am doing this. And I am working to build a better life for us later down the road,” Townsend added.

Townsend welcomed Adyn on Mar. 14, 2021, and returned to the sport in the following year. She has since played some great tennis, especially in doubles. Notably, shortly after her strong third-round win over Babos and Stefani at Roland Garros, Townsend shared a poignant Instagram story expressing how much she missed her son Adyn on his first day of camp.

Taylor Townsend Chases Her Third Grand Slam Doubles Title at the 2025 French Open

Townsend has been hitting her stride in doubles for quite some time. The American is chasing her third Grand Slam doubles title at the 2025 French Open, having already won at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships and the 2025 Australian Open with Czech partner Siniaková.

The duo secured their second title of the season at the Dubai Duty Free Championships in February and reached the semifinals in the WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells and Miami. Townsend’s momentum was briefly halted when she suffered a concussion during her Miami quarterfinal, forcing her to miss the majority of the clay-court season.

Yet, the doubles World No. 2 and Siniaková staged a strong comeback in Paris to reach the quarterfinals. They defeated the pair of Olivia Gadecki and Zhang Shuai, the British duo of Jodie Burrage and Sonay Kartal, and eventually Timea Babos and Luisa Stefani on their way to the top eight.
