Serena Williams’ husband and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian recently made a significant investment of over 26 million to acquire a 10% stake in Chelsea FC Women. This marks Ohanian’s second foray into women’s soccer; he previously held stakes in Angel City FC, a Los Angeles-based soccer team that competes in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

In addition to his involvement in soccer, Ohanian owns the Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC), and he also founded Athlos NYC, a women-only track and field event that was first held in 2024 at the Icahn Stadium in New York City.

Serena Williams’ Husband Alexis Ohanian Buys 10% Stake in Chelsea FC Women

Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, made the investment to buy a 10% stake in Chelsea FC Women through his venture capital firm, Seven Seven Six (776), which he established in June 2021.

Ohanian announced on social media on Wednesday, May 14, that he’s joining the London-based soccer team as an investor and board member. He also expressed his wish to build on the team’s profile and make it a “favorite” for American soccer fans.

“I’ve bet big on women’s sports before—and I’m doing it again. I’m proud to announce that I’m joining @ChelseaFCW as an investor and board member. I’m honored for the chance to help this iconic club become America’s favorite @BarclaysWSL team and much, much more,” Ohanian posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The tech entrepreneur mentioned that while Chelsea FC Women has enjoyed an undefeated streak, his investment goes beyond securing titles. He stated that he aims to provide the talented players with the necessary resources, visibility, and the respect they deserve.

“These players are rewriting the game. Undefeated season. Eyes on the treble. But this isn’t just about winning titles. It’s about finally matching their talent with the resources, visibility, and respect they deserve. I’ve been right about this before and I couldn’t be more excited,” Serena Williams’ husband added.

While speaking about Chelsea FC Women, Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, described the London-based soccer club as “iconic.”

Ohanian expressed that he is eager to expand the team’s fan base not only in America but also on a global scale. He also mentioned that the club is “special,” and their impressive trophy collection proves their success and legacy.

“I’m bullish on English football, and Chelsea is already an iconic club with a high integrity and remarkable president. It was a very compelling opportunity, and I’m excited to help them build their fanbase here in the U.S. and beyond. This team is special; these ladies have the MASSIVE trophy case to prove it!” Ohanian said [via Front Office Sports].

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian, along with their family and friends, are expected to attend the match between Chelsea and Manchester United in the Women’s FA Cup final, which will take place on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Wembley Stadium.
