Serena Williams’ former coach, Rick Macci, reminisced about her sister Venus Williams’ “confidence” which she had as a 14-year-old. Macci had coached both the Williams sisters.
Apart from the Williams sisters, Macci has also coached the likes of Andy Roddick, Jennifer Capriati, Sofia Kenin, Maria Sharapova, and Bethanie Mattek-Sands among others.
Serena Williams’ Ex-Coach, Rick Macci Praises Venus Williams’ Mental Fortitude as a 14-Year-Old
Both Venus and Serena Williams were first coached by their father, Richard Williams. However, in 1991, the family relocated from Compton, California to West Palm Beach, Florida, so that the sisters could receive training from Macci.
Macci recently took to social media and praised Venus Williams’ remarkable mental strength and “confidence” which she had when she was just 14 years old. He mentioned that the former World No.1 exuded confidence of winning in her debut matches because of the fast serve she had.
“Vee had so much confidence at age 14.She knew she could win her debut in 94 even though she did not play a tournament for 3 years. But It does help if you have a 114 mph serve and run the 40 yard dash faster than the AAU sprint champion. @Venuseswilliams,” Macci posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
