Sebastian Korda shockingly withdrew from the upcoming Wimbledon Championships on Tuesday, June 17. Just a day later, the American disclosed the reason behind his withdrawal, which could possibly sideline him for an extended period.
Sebastian Korda Reveals the Reason for Opting Out of Wimbledon 2025
Korda hasn’t had a strong season so far, wnning just 11 out of 21 matches. The 24-year-old had a runner-up finish at the Adelaide International but struggled to find rhythm, apart from a quarterfinal run at the Miami Open. Before starting the clay-court swing, he suffered early exits at the Australian Open, the Open 13, and the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
The American then faced a first-round exit in Monte-Carlo, followed by a second-round loss in Barcelona, and third-round defeats in both Madrid and Rome, before suffering a similar result at the French Open.

The World No. 26 skipped the lead-up events, namely, the BOSS Open and the Queen’s Club Championships, before ultimately withdrawing from Wimbledon. Korda recently revealed that he sustained a stress fracture in his shin during the clay-court swing. He announced the news via his Instagram story, sharing a photo of himself on crutches.
“Unfortunately, no Wimbledon for me this year. Stress fracture in my shin during the clay. Been a tough 12 months but better days ahead,” he wrote.
Notably, Korda shared the news of his withdrawal less than two weeks before the Wimbledon Championships. Moreover, Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo, who made it into the third round of the grass-court Major last year, has also pulled out from this year’s event.
Sebastian Korda Had a Decent Run on Grass Last Year
With his surprising withdrawal from this year’s grass-court swing, Korda misses the chance to build on the solid run he enjoyed on the surface last year. After facing a third-round exit at the 2024 French Open, the American staged a strong comeback by starting his grass-court campaign at the Libema Open.
He beat Tristan Schoolkate 6-4, 7-6 (4), and Luca Nardi 7-5, 7-5, before eliminating the second seed Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-2 to reach the semifinals. Here, he triumphed 6-2, 6-4 against Tallon Griekspoor before suffering a 2-6, 4-6 to Alex de Minaur in the title clash.
Korda then competed at the Queen’s Club Championships and started his run with a 7-5, 7-6(5) win over Karen Khachanov before edging out third set Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to book his place in the quarterfinals. Here, he came back from a set down to beat Rinky Hijikata 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4 and set up a semifinal clash with fifth seed Tommy Paul. Paul won the all-American encounter 6-4, 7-6(2) and went on to win the tournament.
Korda’s grass-court season came to a disappointing end as he suffered a second successive opening-round exit at Wimbledon.
