Aryna Sabalenka faces Naomi Osaka in the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open on Tuesday. The World No. 1 has been in stellar form at Indian Wells and will be looking to brush Osaka aside in her quest to win the WTA 1000 event for the first time in her career.
Osaka, the 2018 women’s singles champion at Indian Wells, has been impressive since returning from an abdominal injury that forced her to withdraw from the Australian Open. She will have her sights set on pulling off an upset against Sabalenka on Tuesday.

Sabalenka vs. Osaka Head-to-Head Record
This will be the second meeting between Sabalenka and Osaka, and it is the latter who holds the head-to-head lead 1-0. Their only meeting so far came in the Round of 16 of the 2018 US Open, and Osaka won in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Osaka went on to win the 2018 US Open, her first Grand Slam title.
However, it will be Sabalenka who goes into this clash as the favorite. The Belarusian has been in dominant form this year on the WTA Tour, losing only one match so far, which came in the Australian Open final.
The three-set loss to Elena Rybakina is the only match in which Sabalenka has dropped a set so far this year. She began her Indian Wells campaign with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Himeno Sakatsume before dispatching Jaqueline Cristian 6-4, 6-1 in the third round.
Osaka claimed a 7-5, 6-2 win over Victoria Jiménez Kasintseva in her Indian Wells opener. The 16th seed then needed three sets to overcome Camila Osorio, winning 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 to set up the clash against Sabalenka.
