Roger Federer’s enduring popularity was on full display as he returned to the court at the US Open, delighting a packed crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Taking on Andy Roddick before featuring in a star-studded doubles clash, the 20-time Grand Slam champion stole the show with his “Roger Federer: An Icon Returns to New York” exhibition. Among those in attendance were Federer’s family and several high-profile tennis stars.

Ahead of his induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, on August 29, Federer arrived at the US Open, a tournament where he enjoyed some of the most memorable moments of his legendary career.
On Tuesday, August 25, the former world No. 1 delighted fans by taking on Roddick, reviving their iconic rivalry 14 years after their last tour-level encounter. Federer enjoyed special support in the crowd for the match, with his parents, Robert and Lynette, wife, Mirka, and twin daughters, Myla Rose and Charlene, as well as twin sons, Leo and Lenny, in attendance.

The tennis world also refused to miss the opportunity to see Federer back on the court, with Alexandra Eala, Casper Ruud, and Felix Auger-Aliassime and his wife, Nina, taking the stands. They were joined by acclaimed songwriter and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Serena Williams also returned to Arthur Ashe Stadium shortly after her blockbuster mixed doubles run with Carlos Alcaraz, which ended in a quarterfinal defeat. The 23-time Grand Slam champion watched the action alongside longtime tennis fan and former editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour.

In a one-set match that was reminiscent of his dominant 21-3 winning record against Roddick, Federer treated the spectators by securing a 6-3 victory. The pair then took the court again for a doubles showdown, with Federer teaming up with John McEnroe, while Roddick joined forces with Andre Agassi.
Federer and McEnroe claimed a 7-5 victory over Roddick and Agassi to bring an end to the exciting event.

Roger Federer’s legacy continues to loom large over the US Open as he remains the last man to successfully defend his title at Flushing Meadows, having won five consecutive titles from 2004 to 2008.
Carlos Alcaraz will be aiming to end that drought with a successful title defense at the New York Major. However, the Spaniard faces a tough task, playing only his first tournament back after having his season derailed by a wrist injury sustained at the Barcelona Open in April.
