His consistency was reflected in the 209 weeks he spent as world No. 1. Nadal completed his career Grand Slam at 24 by defeating Novak Djokovic in the 2010 US Open final, while Alcaraz, at just 22, could become the youngest man in the Open Era to achieve the same milestone. Nadal recently sat down for an interview with 9News Australia, where he was asked how he feels about Alcaraz having a chance to break his record on Sunday.
Nadal said he is at peace with his career and takes pride in his achievements. He does not worry about his records being broken and welcomes others surpassing him.
“Good for me (smiles). For me, my career is over and I am not the kind of guy that gonna live rest of my life thinking “oh wow somebody’s gonna break a record” and worry for that. No, not at all to be honest, I am very proud about what I achieved and if somebody is doing better than me today very welcome,” he said.
Sunday’s men’s final is set to captivate tennis fans around the world. While Alcaraz has enjoyed remarkable success at a young age, the Australian Open title has so far eluded him. He also aims to improve his head-to-head against Novak Djokovic, who currently leads 5-4, though Alcaraz convincingly defeated the Serb 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-2 in their most recent clash at the US Open semifinals.
