After winning the 2025 Queen's Club Championships, Carlos Alcaraz opened up about the internal struggles he faced before turning his life around.

After clinching the 2025 Queen’s Club Championships, Carlos Alcaraz candidly discussed the internal struggles he faced and the “hate” he had in himself before turning his life around.

At the ATP 500 grass court tournament in London, Alcaraz defeated Adam Walton, Jaume Munar, Arthur Rinderknech, and Roberto Bautista Agut to secure a spot in the final. There, he triumphed over Jiří Lehečka with a score of 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-2 to win his second title at the Queen’s Club, having previously won in 2023. Carlos Alcaraz Talks About How He Turned the Tide After Miami Open Loss

During the post-match press conference following his win, Alcaraz reflected on his remarkable winning streak since his defeat to David Goffin in the second round of the 2025 Miami Open. Since that loss, the Spaniard has recorded 27 wins and just one defeat, capturing titles at the Monte-Carlo Masters, Italian Open, French Open, and Queen’s Club Championships and finishing as the runner-up at the Barcelona Open.

Alcaraz mentioned that following his loss in Miami, he grappled with “hate” and frustration, fueled mainly by the criticism he received.

“Well, I had so much hate when I lost in Miami. Instead of practice after that, I took a break and I went to Cancun with my family. And I had too much hate then, because a lot of people, you know, start to say, like, What’s going on with this guy that he just lost in the first round, and he didn’t practice, he didn’t go to the court and keep practicing just to be better?” Alcaraz said.

The former World No. 1 revealed that he took a vacation to Cancun with his family to regain his focus and passion for the sport. This break allowed him to step away from tennis and clear his mind.

“And I think that was the key, just to have five, six days off, not grabbing a racquet, not stepping on the court. Just go to vacation with my family, to turn off my mind, to think what should I have done better?” he continued.

Alcaraz expressed that this time away from the court rejuvenated his love for the game, enabling him to return to playing tennis with renewed enthusiasm.

“And that was the key. You know, after, yeah, it was after Miami, after the vacation that I had in Cancun with my family, I just got the joy back, and I start to enjoy playing tennis again, to enjoy step on the court, competing again. And I think that was the key, to have my days with my family and realizing what is the most important thing for me, that I go there. I’m gonna say that,” Alcaraz added.

In 2023, Alcaraz was the top seed at the Wimbledon Championships. He began his campaign with a decisive victory against Jérémy Chardy in the first round and then followed it up by defeating Alexandre Müller in the second round. The Spaniard then registered wins over Nicolás Jarry and Matteo Berrettini in the third and fourth rounds, respectively.

Alcaraz eliminated Holger Rune in the quarterfinals and advanced to the final after overcoming Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals. In the championship match, Alcaraz defeated four-time defending champion Djokovic with a scoreline of 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, securing the 2023 Wimbledon title.

Last year, Alcaraz, seeded third, defeated Mark Lajal, Aleksandar Vukic, Frances Tiafoe, and Ugo Humbert in the first four rounds. He then overcame Tommy Paul and Medvedev in the quarterfinal and semifinal, respectively, securing his place in the final.

In a rematch of the 2023 final, Alcaraz once again faced Djokovic and successfully defended his title, winning in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4).
