What Outfit Is Naomi Osaka Wearing at French Open? Everything to Know About the Nike Dress Inspiration

Naomi Osaka's dreamy French Open 2025 outfit steals the show during debut. Here's everything to know about the design.

Naomi Osaka is famously known to go all out when it comes to her on-court fashion. The 2025 French Open has been no different. The Japanese tennis player stole the show as she walked out on Court Philippe Chatrier on Monday, May 26, for her debut.

Osaka shared the court with Paula Badosa, which marked the pair’s first-ever tour-level encounter. Although both players were dressed in Nike, the former’s custom kit broke the internet.

Everything to Know About Naomi Osaka’s Nike Outfit for French Open

Osaka put to rest the ever-growing rumors about her outfit on red clay a few days ago by sharing a glimpse of her Nike GP Challenge 1 “Naomi Osaka” shoes. She also confirmed that the kicks were inspired by “sakura,” the Japanese word for cherry blossom.

Osaka’s shoes prominently feature a cherry blossom print and a Pink Foam/Pale Pink/Hyper Pink/Polarized Pink colorway. The American manufacturer’s website further details the inspiration:

“This special design is a luxurious take on an ornate bouquet from the French Baroque time period.”

The player gave a nod to the thoughtfully created design on Instagram.

“Spring is sakura season. The girlies are gonna love this one,” Osaka captioned her post.

The four-time Grand Slam champion’s outfit, though, was a well-kept secret. Just hours before her match, she dropped hints by donning a special hairdo and accessorizing her hair with flower-shaped clips. Her nails, too, followed the cherry blossom theme.

Naomi Osaka’s outfit largely featured powder pink with hints of burnt umber. The dress bore a striking resemblance to one of her favorite anime characters, Sakura Haruno, from the popular Japanese manga series Naruto.

The 27-year-old’s preference for layered skirts was evident, having opted for a similar style at the 2024 US Open. She also wore a letterman jacket over the high-collar dress while entering the court.

Naomi Osaka Designed Her Outfit Herself

Naomi Osaka is no stranger to designing her outfits. She often contributes ideas while creating her collections with Nike. While speaking to the press at the French Open, the Japanese player confirmed that her kit in Paris was her personal idea.

“The shoes are Sakura themed. Which is just in time for spring, which is Sakura season. It follows the flower story that we have throughout the year,” she said. “I’m really excited about the kit because I designed it.”

“I don’t know why Nike is letting me do this stuff. I say this every Slam,” Osaka joked.

“But I think it’s really adorable. I’m just excited. I don’t know if you can see from all the way over here, but I did my nails. They’re Sakura-themed too. I’m really sticking to the flower story that we have.”

Naomi Osaka is now two for two when it comes to flower-themed looks at the 2025 Grand Slam events. She sported sunflower-inspired shoes at the Australian Open and accessorized her hair with sunflower clips to create an iconic look.
