After Novak Djokovic’s 1 Locker Room Response About Kids and Family, Nick Krygios Makes Bold Prediction About Serb’s Retirement

After conversing with Novak Djokovic about his family, Nick Kyrgios made a strong prediction regarding the Serb's potential retirement from tennis.

Nick Kyrgios recently made a firm prediction regarding Novak Djokovic’s potential retirement from professional tennis. Kyrgios made this statement after speaking to the Serb about family and children during the 2025 Indian Wells Masters.

Djokovic married his wife Jelena in 2014 in the picturesque coastal town of Sveti Stefan, Montenegro. The couple has two children, son Stefan and daughter Tara.

Nick Kyrgios Makes His Thoughts Known on Novak Djokovic’s Career

Djokovic turned professional in 2003 and has since established himself as one of the greatest players in tennis history. He has won 24 Grand Slam titles — 10 at the Australian Open, seven at Wimbledon, four at the US Open, and three at the French Open.

The Serb was ranked World No. 1 in the ATP world rankings for a record 428 weeks over 13 years. He has represented Serbia on the Olympic stage, earning a bronze medal in 2008 and a gold medal in 2024, among numerous other accolades.

Recently, while speaking to tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou on the ‘All on the Table! UTS Talk Show,’ Kyrgios lauded Djokovic as the “best of all time,” noting that he has achieved everything possible in the sport.

The Aussie also revealed that he had a conversation with Djokovic at the 2025 Indian Wells Masters during which he inquired about the Serb continuing to play tennis, given his extensive accomplishments.

“He won everything. He’s the best of all time. I asked him this at Indian Wells this year. I said, like, we’re in the locker room, I was like, ‘Why are you here? Why are you playing?’ And he just goes, ‘I don’t know.’ I was like, ‘What about your kids? Don’t you want to spend time with your family?’ He just goes, ‘Yeah, I don’t know,'” Kyrgios said.

Kyrgios stated that Djokovic might be missing his family and wants to spend more time with his children, and this desire could influence his decision to step back from the tour. He also speculated that the 24-time Grand Slam champion may not compete for much longer, particularly as he has not recently won any Grand Slam titles.

“So, I think that was the first time I think he’s like he misses his family a lot. So, I just can’t see him playing, you know? I stay in touch with him all the time. I can’t see him playing for more than another year. I can’t see him doing that again. Not the whole year again. I can’t see Novak playing for much longer, especially because he’s not winning the Slams anymore, too,” he added.

Djokovic last competed at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, where he reached the semifinals before being defeated by top seed and eventual champion Jannik Sinner.

Where Will Novak Djokovic Compete Next?

Djokovic is set to start his hard-court season at the 2025 Canadian Open, which is scheduled to take place from Jul. 27 to Aug. 7, 2025, at the Sobeys Stadium in Toronto. Alongside the Serb, players like Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, defending champion Alexei Popyrin, Daniil Medvedev, Denis Shapovalov, and Taylor Fritz, among others, will also compete at the tournament.

Djokovic has claimed the Canadian ATP 1000 hard court title four times — in 2007, 2011, 2012, and 2016. He also finished as the runner-up in 2015.

In 2016, the 24-time Grand Slam champion entered the Canadian Open as the top seed, and he began his campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. He defeated Gilles Müller 7-5, 7-6(3) and followed it up by a straight-sets victory over qualifier Radek Štěpánek, winning 6-2, 6-4 in the second and third rounds, respectively.

In the quarterfinals, Djokovic faced fifth seed Tomáš Berdych, triumphing with a score of 7-6(6), 6-4. He then secured his place in the final with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over 10th seed Gaël Monfils in the semifinals. In the championship match, he defeated third seed Kei Nishikori 6-3, 7-5 to secure his 30th ATP Masters 1000 title.
