Novak Djokovic Explains the Significance of His Children Watching His Wimbledon Epic

Djokovic’s children, Stefan and Tara, have been in the crowd to cheer him on throughout his Wimbledon campaign. The Serb joked about his Wimbledon quarterfinal going past their bedtime and how he was glad that they stayed to watch the 5-hour, 15-minute thriller.

“I was telling the kids to go to sleep after the fourth set, but they didn’t want to listen. I’m glad they stayed because it was honestly one of the best matches I was part of on this court in my career,” Djokovic said during his on-court post-match interview.

Following his third-round win at Wimbledon, Djokovic shared his gratitude at having his children in his player’s box as the end of his professional career nears. He called their support “special” and a “blessing,” and has previously spoken about their support helping him change his perspective on the sport.

The 39-year-old was also asked about the significance of reaching yet another semifinal, making it 55 at Grand Slams. However, he made it clear that, at the moment, he has only recovery and figuring out a way to defeat Sinner on his mind.

“It’s just another semifinal for me. I’m going to look at all the numbers when I finish my career. Right now, it’s all business. I still have to recover, I’m still in the tournament, and I have the best player in the world in a few days’ time,” Djokovic added.

The year so far may not have gone to plan for Djokovic, but he has rolled back the years with some of his performances. He also managed to defeat Sinner at the Australian Open semifinals in a thrilling five-set match and will hope to take inspiration from that performance as he continues his chase for a record 25th Grand Slam title.

The two players also met at this stage of the Wimbledon Championships last year, with Sinner winning in straight sets en route to his fourth Grand Slam title. However, there are some uncertainties surrounding Sinner’s game that have emerged at Wimbledon over the last week, and Novak Djokovic will hope to take advantage in this blockbuster semifinal.
