Novak Djokovic Extends Support to Holger Rune as the Dane Recovers From Achilles Injury
Rune was the top seed at the 2025 Stockholm Open, and he began his campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. He defeated Márton Fucsovics (6-4, 6-4) in his opening match and eliminated Tomás Martín Etcheverry (6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals of the ATP 250 hard-court event in Sweden, Rune faced Ugo Humbert and was leading the match 6-4, 2-2 when he suffered from the leg injury that forced him to retire. His mother, Aneke Rune, later confirmed to the press that he had torn his Achilles tendon.
The former World No. 4 later took to social media and revealed that his Achilles tendon was fully torn at the proximal part. Following surgery, he has been focused on recovery and rehabilitation. Rune has shared videos on social media of himself training in the gym and hitting balls on the court while being cautious with his injured foot.
Recently, Djokovic took to social media and shared a video of Rune’s recovery and rehabilitation process. He also wrote a message extending his support to the Dane.
“Keep it going Holger 🙌💪 @holgerrune,” Djokovic captioned his Instagram story.
“🙏🙏💪,” Rune replied.

Meanwhile, Djokovic concluded his 2025 season after competing at the Hellenic Championship. He was the top seed at the tournament, and he began his campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. He defeated Alejandro Tabilo (7-6(3), 6-1) in his opening match and overcame sixth seed Nuno Borges (7-6(1), 6-4) in the quarterfinals.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion secured his place in the final by eliminating qualifier Yannick Hanfmann (6-3, 6-4). In the championship match, he defeated second seed Lorenzo Musetti (4-6, 6-3, 7-5) to win the tournament, claiming his 101st career ATP Tour-level title.
The Serb was next set to compete at the 2025 ATP Finals but withdrew from the tournament just hours after winning the ATP 250 hard court tournament in Athens, citing a shoulder injury.
This season, in addition to winning the 2025 Hellenic Championship, Djokovic also claimed the 2025 Geneva Open title by defeating Hubert Hurkacz in the final. In the Grand Slam tournaments this season, he reached the semifinals in all four events. He lost to Alexander Zverev at the Australian Open and was eliminated by Jannik Sinner at the French Open and Wimbledon. At the US Open, he fell to Carlos Alcaraz.
