Naomi Osaka and Patrick Mouratoglou abruptly ended their coaching partnership, as stated by the four-time Grand Slam champion in a recent Instagram story. Their split comes just days after Osaka’s straight-set defeat to Emma Raducanu at the Citi DC Open in Washington.
Naomi Osaka’s Instagram Story About Patrick Mouratoglou Split
Osaka posted a heartfelt message on her Instagram story, thanking Mouratoglou for their time together and expressed gratitude for the learning experience. She wrote:
“Merci Patrick ❤️ it was such a great experience learning from you. Wishing you nothing but the best. You are one of the coolest people I’ve ever met and I’m sure I’ll see you around 🙏🏽”

Days earlier, on July 24, Osaka fell 4-6, 2-6 to Emma Raducanu in the second round of the Citi DC Open in Washington. Raducanu’s powerful serving and consistent baseline play proved decisive, as Osaka struggled with seven double faults and failed to convert any of her two break-point opportunities.
Osaka and Coach Patrick Mouratoglou’s Partnership and Their Sudden Split
Naomi Osaka and Patrick Mouratoglou began working together in September 2024, shortly after Osaka parted ways with coach Wim Fissette following the 2024 US Open. Their collaboration kicked off at the China Open in Beijing, where Osaka won her first match under Mouratoglou’s guidance, defeating Lucia Bronzetti 6-3, 6-2.

Over the past ten months, Mouratoglou, famed for coaching Serena Williams to ten major titles, aimed to rebuild Osaka’s confidence and adapt her game. Despite glimpses of promise, such as a third-round appearance at the 2025 Australian Open and Wimbledon, Osaka failed to secure a title under his tutelage, and her ranking slipped outside the Top 50.
Their partnership, intended as a long-term project, ended quite abruptly. Osaka’s Instagram Story on July 27 served as the sole announcement of their split. While she praised Mouratoglou’s mentorship, neither has publicly detailed the reasons behind their decision to part ways yet.
Osaka is currently in Montreal, where she will compete at the Canadian Open. The Japanese will face Canadian qualifier Ariana Arseaneault, with the winner taking on 13th seed Liudmila Samsonova in the second round of the WTA 1000 event.
