In an unexpected twist of events, Naomi Osaka expressed her feelings about an "insane" request from a fan who asked her to be their wife.

Naomi Osaka recently encountered an unusual request that left her baffled. A fan made an “insane” proposal to the former World No. 1, asking her to be their wife.

After completing her 2025 tennis season, Osaka returned to the court for the Atlanta Cup, an exhibition event that took place on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Gas South Arena in Duluth. The event also featured Aryna Sabalenka, Ben Shelton, and Nick Kyrgios.

Naomi Osaka Reacts to a Fan Asking Her To Be Their Wife

After her campaign in Atlanta, Osaka engaged with her fans on social media through a question-and-answer session. During this interaction, one fan asked her if she would consider being their wife.

“Would you be kind enough to be my wife please?” a fan asked.

In response, Osaka expressed confusion over how a fan could propose marriage, citing that they do not know her. She described the proposal as an “insane commitment” from the fan’s perspective.

“I’m confused by questions like this because you don’t know me 😭 😭 😭 Insane commitment from your end lol,” Osaka replied.

Osaka concluded her 2025 tennis season after competing at the Japan Women’s Open, where she defeated compatriot Wakana Sonobe and Suzan Lamens in the first two rounds. In the quarterfinals, she was scheduled to face Jaqueline Cristian but had to withdraw due to a left thigh injury sustained during her second-round match, marking a premature end to her season.

Osaka To Begin 2026 Season at the United Cup

Osaka is set to begin her 2026 season by representing Japan in the United Cup in Australia. The tournament is scheduled to take place from January 2 to January 11, 2026, and the matches will be held at the RAC Arena in Perth and the Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney.

Team Japan is in Group E, alongside Team Great Britain and Team Greece, with their matches scheduled to take place in Perth. This will be Team Japan’s debut at the mixed-gender team tennis event. In addition to Osaka, the team will include two male players, Shintaro Mochizuki and Yasutaka Uchiyama, as well as another female player, Nao Hibino.

During the group matches at the 2026 United Cup, Osaka may face Team Great Britain’s Emma Raducanu and Team Greece’s Maria Sakkari in singles matches. Osaka and Raducanu have only met once on the WTA Tour, during the second round of the 2025 Citi DC Open, where the former World No. 10 won with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-2.

Meanwhile, Osaka and Sakkari have faced each other five times on the WTA Tour, with the four-time Grand Slam champion winning three of those encounters. Their most recent match-up was in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Miami Open, which Sakkari won with a scoreline of 6-0, 6-4.
