Seeded sixth at the 2026 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, Andreeva began her campaign with a victory over Jeļena Ostapenko, winning 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in the first round. She secured her place in the quarterfinals against Świątek by defeating qualifier Alycia Parks with a score of 7-6(3), 6-3 in the second round.
During the post-match press conference after her second-round win, Andreeva was asked about her approach to facing Świątek on the clay courts in Stuttgart. In response, the former world No. 5 mentioned that she would prepare for the match with her coach, Conchita Martínez.
Andreeva praised Świątek as a “great player” with a “good history” on clay. She said she would approach the match against the former world No. 1 like any other match and that she is “curious” to see how it unfolds.
“Yeah, I don’t know. I will just try to talk with Conchita. Obviously she’s a great player, but I’ll just approach this match as every other match that I had before. Obviously she’s had a good history on clay, so I’m just very curious to see how it’s gonna go. Obviously this is clay indoors, so it’s still a little bit different, but yeah, I’m kind of excited to see how this match will go on clay court for the first time,” Andreeva said.
Świątek has won the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix twice in her career, first in Stuttgart in 2022, defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the final. She defended her title in 2023 by again overcoming Sabalenka in the championship match.
This year, Świątek, seeded third at the WTA 500 clay court tournament, began her campaign in the second round following a first-round bye. She advanced to the quarterfinals by eliminating Laura Siegemund with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-3 in her opening match.
The winner of the quarterfinal match between Andreeva and Świątek at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix will advance to face either top seed Elena Rybakina or Leylah Fernandez in the semifinals of the tournament.
