Daniil Medvedev seemed relieved as he longed for respite from the rain at the 2026 Miami Open. The tournament was forced to reschedule a staggering number of matches after mass cancellations due to the weather.

Daniil Medvedev Expresses Relief After Weather Woes in Miami
World No. 10 Medvedev enters the Masters 1000 Miami Open riding a wave of momentum from his performance at Indian Wells. He battled past Alex Michelsen, toppled Jack Draper, and stunned World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in a thrilling semifinal. His remarkable run ended in the final, where Italian sensation Jannik Sinner claimed the title with a 7-6(6), 7-6(4) victory.
Medvedev and other competitors at the Miami Open are navigating significant scheduling disruptions after torrential rain forced the cancellation of all 37 matches scheduled for Wednesday. The tournament, which was affected by severe weather, saw no play on Wednesday, creating a massive backlog.
Practice sessions for multiple stars, including Carlos Alcaraz, Aryna Sabalenka, and Elena Rybakina, were also affected. With the sun out on Thursday, Medvedev, who was one of the late arrivals in Florida, hinted at relief. In a recent X post, Medvedev wrote, “No rain…..”

Medvedev’s journey to the Miami Open was anything but smooth. Not only did he battle unpredictable weather, but he also arrived in Florida without his luggage. The absence of his essential gear made preparing for the tournament even more challenging. A day later, the former World No. 1 confirmed that his bags were returned to him.
With his luggage intact and the weather favorable, the tennis player will now look to put in the hard yards. He awaits the winner of Aleksandar Kovacevic vs. Rei Sakamoto in the second round after a bye in the first. Medvedev faced these challenges after he was stranded among other players in Dubai during a regional conflict.
He had earlier shared his ordeal of travelling from the United Arab Emirates to Oman, then to Istanbul, and finally to Los Angeles. Due to the conflict, Dubai International Airport had halted operations and has now resumed them for selected destinations and carriers.
