Lorenzo Musetti recently opened up about the birth of his first child, a son named Ludovico Musetti. He also discussed the mental and emotional challenges he faced while his girlfriend, Veronica Confalonieri, was pregnant.
Musetti and Confalonieri have been together for three years, and they made their relationship public in December 2022. Confalonieri studied visual arts at the Istituto Europeo di Design from 2016 to 2019 and has been working as a graphic designer at Sky Italia for six years.
Lorenzo Musetti Opens Up About the Responsibilities and Struggles He and Girlfriend Veronica Had As Young Parents
Musetti and Confalonieri announced they were expecting a child in 2023, and they welcomed their son, Ludovico, on March 15, 2024. Earlier this year, in May 2025, they revealed that they are expecting their second child.
In a recent interview with Repubblica, Musetti opened up about fatherhood, describing the arrival of Ludovico as a “shock” and a “wonderful surprise,” given that he and Confalonieri had not planned to have a child.
The former World No. 6 admitted that he was “afraid” of the new responsibilities that fatherhood would bring. He confessed that he struggled both mentally and emotionally during Confalonieri’s pregnancy, as he grappled with all these new feelings and changes.
“My first child was a real shock and a wonderful surprise. He wasn’t wanted, we decided to keep him, and I had to rethink my life. I was afraid I wasn’t ready for new things. I had to start a family, move house, grow up, accept responsibilities. It wasn’t easy, it created doubts and problems for me, and I experienced Veronica’s pregnancy with a lot of struggle. Both mentally and emotionally,” Musetti said.
On the tennis side of things, this year, Musetti finished as the runner-up in singles at three tournaments: the 2025 Monte-Carlo Masters, the Chengdu Open, and the Hellenic Championship. In Monaco, he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the final; in China, Alejandro Tabilo defeated him; and in Athens, he was beaten by Novak Djokovic.
The former World No. 6 also had a runner-up finish in doubles at the Cincinnati Open, partnering with compatriot Lorenzo Sonego. The Italian duo reached the final before falling to the pair of Nikola Mektić and Rajeev Ram.
Musetti reached the semifinals at the 2025 Madrid Open, Italian Open, and Vienna Open, losing to runner-up Jack Draper, eventual champion Alcaraz, and eventual runner-up Alexander Zverev, respectively. He also had quarterfinal appearances at the Hong Kong Open, Argentina Open, and China Open.
At the Grand Slam tournaments, Musetti achieved his best result at the 2025 French Open, where he reached the semifinals before being eliminated by the eventual champion, Alcaraz. He reached the quarterfinals at the US Open and had early exits at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, losing in the third round and the first round, respectively.
