Tien vs. Tiafoe Head-to-Head
Tiafoe and Tien have only met once in their careers. That meeting came at the 2023 US Open, when an 18-year-old Tien lost in straight sets to Tiafoe in the first round. The former has become much more polished in the years since, as he showed during his run at the Australian Open this year.
After winning the Next Ten ATP Finals last year, Tien made the quarterfinals of the 2026 Australian Open, defeating Daniil Medvedev in the process. He also came close to defeating Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals, but was ultimately beaten in four sets.

Seeded fourth in Delray Beach, Tien got the better of reigning champion Miomir Kecmanović in the second round. In a close game, the talented youngster claimed the big points and won 6-4, 6-7(7), 7-6(5).
Tiafoe has yet to get going this season. The 28-year-old had a lackluster showing in Melbourne, where he lost to Alex de Minaur in the third round. He was also beaten by Sebastian Korda in the Round of 16 in Dallas.
While Tiafoe has looked solid so far in Delray Beach, he did need three sets to overcome Zachary Svajda in the last round.
Tien vs. Tiafoe Prediction
While Tiafoe has the head-to-head edge, recent form suggests Tien is the favorite heading into this clash. Under the tutelage of former French Open champion Michael Chang, the 20-year-old has taken his game to the next level.
Tien continues to show composure beyond his years, especially on hard courts. His serve appears strong, and his return is improving. He has managed to convert 53%of his break-point opportunities this year and consistently applies pressure on his opponents.

This will be Tiafoe’s first quarterfinal appearance in seven months, and he will no doubt be determined to continue his run and potentially win his first title since 2023.
After a strong run at the French Open last year, Tiafoe lost his momentum during the North American hardcourt swing. And he hasn’t been able to get it back since.
While Tiafoe will no doubt be competitive, Tien’s impressive form should help him get the job done.
Pick – Tien to win in three sets
