Jannik Sinner recently received heartwarming news about a puppy he had spent time with during the 2025 Cincinnati Open. The World No. 1 and his coach, Darren Cahill, had gotten to know a puppy named Ardin at the tournament.

Sinner is the defending champion of the ATP Masters 1000 hard court tournament in Ohio, winning it in 2024 by defeating Frances Tiafoe. This year, he is the top seed and began his campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye.

The World No. 1 triumphed over qualifier Daniel Elahi Galán, 30th seed Gabriel Diallo, and qualifier Adrian Mannarino in the second, third, and fourth rounds, respectively. In the quarterfinals, he beat 23rd seed Félix Auger-Aliassime, then secured a victory against qualifier Térence Atmane in the semifinals, advancing to the final.

How Did Jannik Sinner React After Learning News About Puppy He Met at Cincinnati Open?

During a media session at the 2025 Cincinnati Open, Sinner met with the puppy, which was brought to the tournament by SPCA Cincinnati, a humane society for animals in the city. The World No. 1 was visibly enamored with Ardin and spent time cuddling the puppy.

Recently, Sinner learned that a volunteer security guard named Phil Carver adopted the puppy and changed its name to “Jannik.” After learning about this, the World No. 1 looked delighted.

“He got adopted by a security guard,” the interviewer informed.

“Nooo, so good,” Sinner replied.

“Do you know what his new name is?” the interviewer asked.

“What’s his name?” Sinner questioned.

“Jannik,” the interviewer replied.

“Nooo, so good. So good. That’s amazing. I am very happy. It’s a cute dog,” Sinner said.

After concluding his campaign at the Cincinnati Open, Sinner will compete at the US Open, scheduled to take place from August 24 to September 7, 2025, on the outdoor hard courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City. He will defend his title at this Grand Slam, having won it in 2024 by defeating Taylor Fritz in the final.

Alcaraz, seeded second, began his campaign at the ATP Masters 1000 hard court tournament in Ohio in the second round, following a first-round bye. The Spaniard defeated Damir Džumhur in his opening match and then overcame Hamad Medjedovic and lucky loser Luca Nardi in the third and fourth rounds, respectively.

In the quarterfinals, the former World No. 1 eliminated ninth seed Andrey Rublev and secured his place in the final against Sinner by defeating third seed Alexander Zverev in the semifinals.

Sinner and Alcaraz have faced each other 13 times on the ATP Tour, with the World No. 2 leading their head-to-head record with eight wins to five losses.

Their most recent encounter was in the final of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, in which Sinner emerged victorious with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, claiming his first title at Wimbledon and his fourth Grand Slam title overall.
