Jannik Sinner Cheered On By Parents at Italian Open Practice Session

As Sinner prepared for his second-round match against Sebastian Ofner on Thursday, his parents were in attendance on Court 5 at the Foro Italico to cheer him on. Hundreds of local fans turned up to watch their countryman’s practice session.

This was his parents’ first visit to watch him in action live since the Monte-Carlo Masters final, where he triumphed in straight sets over rival Carlos Alcaraz.

After triumphing in the Madrid Open final, Sinner spoke about the sacrifices his parents have made over the years to help him become one of the best tennis players in the world.

“I consider myself very lucky because when I was 13, I made a choice to leave home and go to a center to practice. This for parents is very difficult, but especially for a mother, to accept that in a way. I missed out a little bit time, spending time with my parents, and I would like to catch up as much as I can,” he said during his press conference.

“[My mom] is definitely a role model, and I’m very happy to have my mom and my dad. They are a true inspiration for me. I just try to be a little bit like them because then I know I’m a good person,” he added.

Sinner was back on Court 5 on Friday as he trained with compatriot Flavio Cobolli in the lead-up to his opening match at the Italian Open.

Having won five straight ATP Masters 1000 titles, Sinner will be determined to add the Italian Open to his locker to generate more momentum going into the French Open. If he wins in Rome, he would also become only the second player, after Novak Djokovic, to win all nine Masters events and complete the Career Golden Masters in singles.

With Alcaraz sidelined due to a wrist injury, Sinner will have the perfect opportunity to finally win at Roland Garros this year, which would allow him to complete the Career Grand Slam.
