Despite not having the best of clay-court records, Sinner looked very much at home in Monte-Carlo and cruised to his second ATP Tour title on the surface.

Sinner will become the world’s top-ranked player when the rankings are next updated on Monday. He overturned a deficit of 3,150 points to Alcaraz in the space of just over a month. He won the Sunshine Double without dropping a set, and continued his sublime run of form by winning the Monte-Carlo Masters.
Alcaraz, who was the defending champion in Monte-Carlo, also enjoyed a strong run this week. But he was no match for Sinner in the final on Sunday.
Sinner came from a break down in both sets. He won the first set in a tie-break, before claiming a dominant 6-3 win in the second set to wrap up a fourth straight ATP Masters 1000 title on the bounce.
The Spaniard was full of praise for his opponent during the post-match trophy ceremony.
“It’s impressive what you [Sinner] are achieving right now. To win the Sunshine Double (Indian Wells and the Miami Open) and Monte-Carlo, it’s incredible,” he said.

But with just 160 points separating Alcaraz and Sinner in the updated ATP Rankings, the battle for the world No. 1 is expected to continue throughout the summer. Alcaraz will return to action at the Barcelona Open next week, while Sinner is expected to play at the Madrid Open.
