Jannik Sinner Explains His Mother’s Choice To Not Join Girlfriend and Family in Monte-Carlo Box

Jannik Sinner clears up the mystery surrounding his mother's noticeable absence from his Monte-Carlo Masters player box.

Jannik Sinner’s moment of triumph at the 2026 Monte-Carlo Masters was made sweeter by the presence of his loved ones at the event. However, the Italian’s mother, Siglinde, was conspicuously absent from his player’s box, where his father Hanspeter, brother Mark, and girlfriend Laila Hasanovic were cheering, despite being in the stadium.

Why Jannik Sinner’s Mother Avoided His Player Box at the Monte-Carlo Masters

After sealing a remarkable 7-6(5), 6-3 victory over Carlos Alcaraz to clinch his maiden clay-court Masters 1000 title, Jannik Sinner rushed to his player’s box to celebrate the monumental win with his loved ones. The 24-year-old joyfully embraced his coaching team, family, and girlfriend, while his mother was spotted tearing up in the crowd.

During his post-match press conference, the four-time Grand Slam champion addressed his mother’s absence, explaining that she was feeling unwell and chose to stay away despite her desire to join their family.

“Mamma wasn’t there because she wasn’t feeling well yesterday, and also today. She wanted to be in the box but in the end she thought it was better to stay outside,” Sinner said.

Although Sinner’s mother wasn’t in his box during the final, she later joined her family for the trophy ceremony. She looked visibly emotional as the world No. 1 thanked his team and loved ones for their unwavering support and understanding.

“Having this here, it means a lot to me. So thanks every single one there in the box. Thanks for supporting, thanks for understanding me, and we try to keep pushing. Thank you,” Sinner said.

Jannik Sinner Says His Mother ‘Suffers’ During His Matches

Sinner has previously spoken about how nerve-wracking it is for his mother to watch his matches live. At the 2025 Italian Open, she left the stadium when the Italian was struggling against Tommy Paul, and she was visibly distraught during her son’s heartbreaking loss to Carlos Alcaraz in last year’s French Open final.

Although his mother “suffered” during tough moments, Sinner cherished her presence. After winning his maiden Wimbledon title last year, he opened up about how special it was to have his parents cheering him on from the stands.

“I was just the happiest to see them in the box and having a great time. Of course, a lot of tension because my mom, she suffers a little bit. But it’s nice because she’s mom and they are parents. They care a lot about their son, and usually they don’t have so much time, and they made it, so I’m very happy,” he told the press at SW19.

The Wimbledon final proved to be a turning point. At the 2025 ATP Finals, Jannik Sinner humorously revealed that after losing in Rome and Paris with his mother watching, he felt the grass-court Major was his “last chance” to finally win a big title in Europe with her in the stands.
