Most tennis fans know Jannik Sinner as the world’s top-ranked player, the Italian who can dismantle opponents with surgical precision from the baseline. But behind the focused competitor who claimed two Grand Slams this season lives a softer side, one that revolves around a massive, fluffy Norwegian cat named Yeti.
What Did Jannik Sinner Reveal About His Unique Bond With Yeti?
During a media session at the 2025 Cincinnati Open, Sinner opened up about the close bond he has with his pet cat, sharing details that revealed a surprisingly tender relationship between the World No. 1 and his feline companion.
During the tournament media sessions, fans got a glimpse into Sinner’s life away from tennis. The World No. 1 talked about his pet cat, revealing that Yeti is a Norwegian breed, quite large, and sometimes behaves more like a canine than a typical feline.
“My cat is getting old; his name is Yeti. He’s a Norwegian breed, so he is a very, very big cat, very fluffy. Sometimes he acts like a dog, you call him and he comes, it’s crazy. He loves to be around people, and the more people there are, the happier he feels,” Sinner said.

The relationship goes deeper than simple companionship. Sinner also noted that Yeti understands when Sinner leaves for a tournament, and the cat clearly doesn’t like it, often choosing to sit inside Sinner’s luggage.
“He’s massive. He’s in shape; he is not fat. Every time when I get ready to leave, he is on my luggage because he feels like I am leaving again. So he always sleeps there. When you wake up in the morning, he waits,” he added.
Sinner was the defending champion at the ATP Masters 1000 hard-court tournament in Ohio. He was the top seed and began his campaign in the second round, where he defeated qualifier Daniel Elahi Galán. Following this, wins against 30th seed Gabriel Diallo, qualifier Adrian Mannarino, and Félix Auger-Aliassime secured a semifinal berth. There, Sinner eliminated qualifier Térence Atmane.
In the finals, Sinner faced Carlos Alcaraz, but finished as the runner-up after retiring from the match during the first set due to illness.
Sinner will next compete at the 2025 US Open, participating in both the singles and mixed doubles events. He has teamed up with Kateřina Siniaková for the mixed doubles, and the pair will face Alexander Zverev and Belinda Bencic in the first round.
The winner of that match will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face either the fourth-seeded pair of Amanda Anisimova and Holger Rune or the wild card team of Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton.
How Did Sinner Dominate His Way to the 2024 US Open Title?
Sinner was the top seed at the 2024 US Open, and he began his campaign with a victory over Mackenzie McDonald in the first round, followed by a win against Alex Michelsen.
The World No. 1 then triumphed over Christopher O’Connell 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in the third round, before facing 14th seed Tommy Paul, winning 7-6(3), 7-6(5), 6-1. In the quarterfinals, Sinner registered a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev.

Sinner secured his place in the final by eliminating 25th seed Jack Draper 7-5, 7-6(3), 6-2 in the semifinals. In the championship match, Sinner defeated 12th seed Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5, claiming the 2024 US Open title, his second Grand Slam title overall.
With this title, the Italian became the youngest man to win both hardcourt singles Grand Slams, the Australian Open and the US Open, in the same year.
