Sinner vs. Zverev Head-to-Head

After ten meetings, Sinner has a 6-4 lead in the head-to-head against Alexander Zverev. While the German had the upper hand early in the rivalry, winning four of the first five matches, the Italian has won his last five matches against Zverev, including a 6-4, 6-3 win in their last match at the ATP Finals last year.

Sinner was quick off the starting line at Indian Wells, winning 6-1, 6-1 against Czech qualifier Dalibor Svrčina in the second round, followed by another dominant 6-3, 6-2 win over Denis Shapovalov in the third round.

In the fourth round, the Italian took on the young Brazilian, João Fonseca, and won a tight match 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4). The second seed was at his impressive best in the quarterfinals, winning 6-1, 6-2 against the 25th-seeded Learner Tien.

Zverev got a bye in the first round as well, followed by a 6-3, 6-4 win over Matteo Berrettini in the second round. The third seed received stiff competition from the 29th-seeded Brandon Nakashima in the fourth round, winning 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-4.

He maintained his dominance over Frances Tiafoe in the head-to-head rivalry, winning 6-3, 6-4 against the 21st seed in the fourth round, followed by another impressive 6-2, 6-3 against the 30th-seeded Arthur Fils in the quarterfinals.

Sinner vs. Zverev Prediction

Given his dominant win over Tien, it’s not a surprise that Sinner had great stats from that match. He won 73 percent of the service points and 51 percent of the return points, saving all four of the break points he faced. He converted four of the five break point opportunities, giving him an early edge in the match.

Zverev won 71 percent and 46 percent of his service and return points, respectively, against Fils. The German player did not drop his serve once, saving all three break points he faced, while converting 4 of the 11 break point opportunities.

For Zverev to reverse his recent trends against Sinner, he needs to have a high first serve percentage and be aggressive during return games. His point of attack should be Sinner’s forehand, which has looked vulnerable at times this season.

For the Italian, he needs to keep his serving numbers high and bring Zverev to the net, which is the German player’s weakness. Given the head-to-head, the PFSN Simulator gives Sinner a 78 percent win probability.

Pick: Sinner to win in three sets
