Holger Rune recently rebuked Jannik Sinner’s ex-girlfriend, Anna Kalinskaya, for claiming that he wanted to go on a date with her. The Dane attributed Kalinskaya’s misinterpretation of his comments as him wanting to go on a date to “cultural differences.”
Before the earlier this year, Veronika Kudermetova also revealed that Rune had messaged her without realizing she was married.
What Did Holger Rune Say About Anna Kalinskaya’s Remarks About Him Wanting To Go on a Date With Her?
Kalinskaya and Sinner publicly confirmed their relationship during the French Open in May 2024. A year later, in May 2025, the former World No. 1 stated that he was no longer in a relationship.
In a recent interview on First&Red, Kalinskaya was asked whether tennis players wanted to date her. In response, she disclosed that many players messaged her expressing interest.
The former World No. 11 revealed that Rune was among those who messaged her 10 times, and after not receiving a reply, he eventually gave up. Additionally, she remarked that the Dane “thinks too much of himself.”
“Tennis players, more often before. Now I’m older, I don’t know, so… for some, there’s just no chance at all. No need to write. Someone wrote like 10 times and then gave up. I’ll say it now, but just… Holger Rune. He writes to everyone. He deserves all this. Thinks too much of himself. But he’s not the only one,” Kalinskaya said.

Reacting to Kalinskaya’s statements, Rune took to social media, suggesting that their “cultural differences” may have led to her misinterpretation of his messages. He clarified that if he had genuinely wanted to go on a date, he would have explicitly asked her.
“Ha ha ha. We might have cultural differences that make Anna read a comment on a story as an invitation to a date 😜 if I want to go on a date, I ask for a date . Don’t worry,” Rune posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

On the tennis side of things, both Kalinskaya and Rune most recently concluded their campaigns at the 2025 US Open and are now preparing for the upcoming Asian swing.
Kalinskaya is expected to compete next at the 2025 China Open, set to take place at the National Tennis Center in Beijing from September 24 to October 6, 2025. In addition to the Russian, players such as defending champion Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Świątek, Naomi Osaka, Bianca Andreescu, Mirra Andreeva, Amanda Anisimova, Belinda Bencic, Katie Boulter, and Leylah Fernandez are also expected to participate in the WTA 1000 hard-court tournament in Beijing.
Last year at the China Open, Kalinskaya advanced to the fourth round, defeating Hailey Baptiste and Peyton Stearns in the second and third rounds, respectively, before falling to Yuliia Starodubtseva.
Meanwhile, Rune is scheduled to compete at the 2025 Japan Open Tennis Championships, taking place from September 24 to September 30, 2025, at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo. Alongside him, players like Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, and Casper Ruud are also expected to participate in the ATP 500 hard-court tournament in Tokyo.
In 2024, Rune defeated Alejandro Tabilo, Yoshihito Nishioka, and Kei Nishikori before being eliminated by the eventual champion, Arthur Fils, in the semifinals.
