A private dispute between tennis players Anna Kalinskaya and Holger Rune has spilled into the public arena, sparking a wave of reactions from fans. It started when Kalinskaya claimed Rune repeatedly messaged her, and his response only added fuel to the fire. This exchange has put their off-court interactions under a microscope, leaving tennis fans to debate between friendly interest and unwanted attention.
How Did Tennis Fans React to Anna Kalinskaya’s Remarks About Holger Rune?
The situation began during a recent interview on “First&Red,” where Anna Kalinskaya revealed that Holger Rune had messaged her 10 times. She noted that after she did not respond, he eventually stopped.
“Someone wrote like 10 times and then gave up. I’ll say it now, but just… Holger Rune. He writes to everyone. Thinks too much of himself,” Kalinskaya said.

Following her comments, Rune took to social media to address the situation. He suggested that “cultural differences” might have caused the former World No. 11 to misinterpret his messages. He also clarified that if he had intended to ask her on a date, he would have done so directly.
“Ha ha ha. We might have cultural differences that make Anna read a comment on a story as an invitation to a date 😜 if I want to go on a date, I ask for a date . Don’t worry,” Rune posted on X.
The online back-and-forth quickly caught the attention of tennis fans, who had plenty to say. Some felt it was strange for Kalinskaya to publicly call out Rune, especially if his messages were not inappropriate.
“I just find it so weird that she shares that to kinda make fun of him?? If he wrote something inappropriate then I would understand, but this?? Idc about him at all, not a fan, but why share that with everyone,” one fan posted.

Another user defended Rune, questioning the amount of criticism he often receives. This fan also brought up Kalinskaya’s past relationship with Nick Kyrgios, whom she briefly dated in 2020.
“I genuinely don’t understand all the hate and mockery Holger Rune gets, like there are some really bad people on the tour who aren’t getting half the hate the poor guy gets. And I mean, girl… you dated that c*nt Kyrgios,” the fan wrote.

“Holger Rune has unsuccessfully slid into every WTA player’s DMS,” a fan posted. “It’s like the whole of wta has beef w this man and wants to keep exposing his ass every chance they get 😭,” another fan wrote.
On the tennis side, Rune most recently competed at the 2025 US Open, where he lost in the second round of the singles event to Jan-Lennard Struff. He also participated in the mixed doubles event alongside Amanda Anisimova and was eliminated in the first round by the Ben Shelton and Taylor Townsend teams.
Looking ahead, Rune is next expected to participate in the 2025 Japan Open Tennis Championships, which will take place from September 24 to September 30, 2025, at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo.
