Russell is an avid tennis fan and has been spotted at events like Wimbledon and the French Open over the years. The Mercedes F1 driver spoke last year about drawing inspiration from a conversation with Novak Djokovic, one of the most successful players in tennis history.
Russell is not the only racing driver enjoying the Monte-Carlo Masters. Haas driver Oliver Bearman was also at the tournament on Thursday as he watched Hubert Hurkacz in action against Valentin Vacherot.
Sinner has also had a connection to Formula One and the Mercedes team, and gave Russell’s teammate, Kimi Antonelli, a shoutout after his maiden win.
“It has been a special day for Italy because I’m a huge Formula 1 fan and having a very, very young Italian Kimi, bringing Italy back home on the top,” he said following Antonelli’s win at the Shanghai GP.
Sinner has been playing some sublime tennis in Monte-Carlo, continuing his strong form after completing the Sunshine Double by winning the BNP Paribas Open and the Miami Open without dropping a set.
The Italian’s run of 37 consecutive sets won at Masters 1000 tournaments came to an end in the last round as he lost a tiebreak to Tomáš Macháč. But he managed to come out on top in three sets to book his spot in the quarterfinals.
Sinner is looking to regain the world No. 1 ranking at the Monte-Carlo Masters. He is neck-and-neck with rival Carlos Alcaraz, who will face Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinals later on Friday.

The 24-year-old would become the world’s top-ranked player again if he manages to fare better than Alcaraz at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
Sinner does not have the best of records on clay, with only one ATP Tour title to his name on the surface. Meanwhile, Alcaraz is the reigning champion at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
