American tennis player Frances Tiafoe has ended his 2025 season early, a decision that comes after a challenging period in his professional career. The 27-year-old, who reached a career-high ranking of World No. 10 in June 2023, has struggled for consistency, culminating in a five-match losing streak and a drop in the ATP rankings.
In response to these setbacks, Tiafoe has withdrawn from his remaining scheduled tournaments for the year, opting to step away from the tour to regroup.

Tiafoe’s most recent ATP Tour victories came during a successful 2023 campaign. His last title wins occurred at two different tournaments that year – the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston where he defeated Tomás Martín Etcheverry 7-6(1), 7-6(6) in April, and the Stuttgart Open where he overcame Jan-Lennard Struff 4-6, 7-6(1), 7-6(8) in a dramatic final, saving a match point in the deciding tiebreak.

His struggles continued during Davis Cup qualifying, where he lost both singles matches – first to Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 6-2, then to Jakub Mensik 6-1, 6-4. At the Japan Open, Tiafoe suffered a first-round defeat against Marton Fucsovics 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. His most recent match ended in disappointment at the Shanghai Masters, where Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann defeated him 6-7(11), 6-2, 6-1 in the second round.

Following this stretch of poor results, Tiafoe decided to withdraw from multiple upcoming tournaments. The American withdrew from the Vienna ATP 500, Paris Masters 1000, and Brussels ATP 250 events.
