Learner Tien Jokingly Calls Out Frances Tiafoe for ‘Scamming’ Him

Tien and Tiafoe appeared to practice together at the All England Club on Wednesday, ramping up their preparations ahead of the third Grand Slam of the year. After practice, Tien shared a photo of Tiafoe on his Instagram story, jokingly taking a dig at the 28-year-old for scamming him out of $500.

“Shoutout to Frances Tiafoe for scamming me out of $500. As a young and upcoming player, this money would help me invest in my career and my future. It’s very disappointing to see this from someone so successful,” the 20-year-old wrote in the caption on his Instagram story alongside a photo of Tiafoe laughing.

“You don’t get too far in this thing called life with being Mr. Nice Guy all the time. Also, the truth will come out soon enough,” Tiafoe responded, laughing.

It is unclear what the post from Tien was about, but the caption suggests it could be an internal joke related to a bet they might have made while practicing at SW19. Tien and Tiafoe share a close friendship and have faced off twice on the ATP Tour, with their head-to-head record standing at 1-1.

Tiafoe recently won his first title of 2026, defeating Taylor Fritz in the final of the Terra Wortmann Open. After winning his second grass-court title in Halle, the Florida native will have his sights set on a deep run at the Wimbledon Championships. He holds a 29-12 win-loss record in 2026 and has enjoyed a strong start to the grass-court swing.

Meanwhile, Tien was eliminated in the second round of the Terra Wortmann Open by Félix Auger-Aliassime and will look to improve on last year’s second-round exit at Wimbledon. He holds a 20-11 win-loss record in 2026 and made the quarterfinals of the Australian Open before winning his second title on the ATP Tour in Geneva last month.

The 2026 Wimbledon Championships will begin on Monday, June 29, with World No. 1 Jannik Sinner looking to successfully defend his men’s singles title. The players will discover their first-round opponents when the draw is made on Friday. Both Tien and Tiafoe will be seeded at Wimbledon, with the former currently 18th and the latter 19th in the ATP rankings.
