What Did Félix Auger-Aliassime Say Before His Final Against Jannik Sinner at the 2025 Paris Masters?

Auger-Aliassime is seeded ninth at the 2025 Paris Masters, and began his campaign by defeating qualifier Francisco Comesaña (6-7(2), 6-3, 6-3) in the first round. He then eliminated Alexandre Müller (5-7, 7-6(5), 7-6(4)) and Daniel Altmaier (3-6, 6-3, 6-2) in the second and third rounds, respectively.

In the quarterfinals of this ATP Masters 1000 hard court tournament in Paris, the former World No. 6 defeated wild card Valentin Vacherot with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-2. He secured his spot in the final against Sinner by beating 13th seed Alexander Bublik with a score of 7-6(3), 6-4 in the semifinals.

Speaking to the press ahead of his final against Sinner, Auger-Aliassime reflected on his previous match against the Italian at the 2025 Cincinnati Open, where he lost 6-0, 6-2. He described that loss as “very hard” as he was far from winning the match.

“Yes, in a way. Especially in Cincinnati the loss was very hard. I was far from winning against him. So this time it was much better. At one point I saw him doubt. And I actually at one point I nearly had a momentum shift where I could turn the match around in my favor,” Auger-Aliassime said.

The Canadian mentioned that during their next encounter, at the US Open, he sensed Sinner doubted himself at times during the match, which he found “encouraging.” Auger-Aliassime stated that Sinner is not “unplayable” and that there is a way to “upset” him during their matches.

“After different reasons, maybe he had a letdown, and the match turns around again. But it was encouraging to see that. These players are not unplayable. They are very strong, yes. Sometimes they’re really unplayable. But there’s a way to upset them in a way,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sinner is the top seed at the 2025 Paris Masters, and he began his campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. He secured his place in the final against Auger-Aliassime by defeating Zizou Bergs (6-4, 6-2), 17th seed Francisco Cerúndolo (7-5, 6-1), fifth seed Ben Shelton (6-3, 6-3), and defending champion, third-seed Alexander Zverev (6-0, 6-1).
