The roar inside Arthur Ashe Stadium wasn’t just for the winners. It was for every doubles player who wanted a shot but watched from the sidelines. Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori stood at center court, trophy in hand, addressing a crowd hungry for real drama.
Their win in the 2025 US Open mixed doubles wasn’t just about the scoreboard– it was about standing up for doubles itself, and everyone who wanted to compete.
What Did Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori Say After Winning the Mixed Doubles Event at 2025 US Open?
This year’s US Open mixed doubles had everyone talking before the matches even started. With the tournament now happening during Fan Week and a new format in play, organizers handed out wild cards to singles stars to pump up excitement and bring more fans to New York’s biggest tennis stage.
Errani and Vavassori, the only doubles team allowed in the field, weren’t the only doubles specialists spotted. Christian Harrison also made his mark, pairing up with Danielle Collins and making it all the way to the semifinals.
The Italian duo kicked things off by knocking out the second-seeded pair, Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz, with a steady 4-2, 4-2 win. Building on that momentum, they powered through the quarterfinals and took down Karolína Muchová and Andrey Rublev, winning 4-1, 5-4(4). That put the pressure on, as Errani and Vavassori faced Collins and Harrison in the semifinals, coming out on top with another 4-2, 4-2 victory.
Getting to the final meant facing serious competition: third seeds Iga Świątek and Casper Ruud. The championship match was a back-and-forth battle, ending with Errani and Vavassori holding their ground for a 6-3, 5-7, [10–6] win– securing back-to-back titles and leaving no doubts about their place on this stage.
The trophy ceremony was more than just cheers. Errani spoke out, dedicating the victory to doubles players who missed their shot:
“I think this one is for all the doubles players who couldn’t play this tournament. I think this one is also for them,” Errani said.

Vavassori took the mic and talked up doubles, calling it “a great product” and urging for better marketing and visibility. He spoke from the heart about the energy in Arthur Ashe, crediting the crowd for their role:
“We showed today that doubles is a great product. I think in the future we need more marketing and visibility. I think this product is something that can also work in the future. It was amazing to play on this court with so many people. I have to say thanks from the bottom of my heart for the atmosphere,” Vavassori said.
Meanwhile, Świątek and Ruud weren’t just handed their spot in the final. They fought through rounds, taking down Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe, Caty McNally and Lorenzo Musetti, and Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper, building a path that kept fans guessing until the end.
