Emma Raducanu Is Reportedly Heading to Barcelona After 2 Withdrawals: Here’s Why

Emma Raducanu is reportedly travelling to Barcelona after withdrawing from two exhibition events in America.

Emma Raducanu was set to participate in two exhibition events in the United States, taking place in Miami and Newark in December 2025. However, she withdrew from both events due to light bone bruising in her right foot. Following her withdrawal, it was reported that the Brit would be traveling to Barcelona to train for the 2026 season.

Initially, Raducanu was scheduled to compete alongside Amanda Anisimova, Carlos Alcaraz, and João Fonseca at the exhibition events. After Raducanu’s withdrawal, Jessica Pegula has now taken her place.

Emma Raducanu to Train With Francisco Roig in Barcelona During 2026 Pre-Season

Raducanu concluded her 2025 tennis season after competing at the Ningbo Open, where she lost in the first round to wild card Zhu Lin. Since then, she has been taking time off from tennis. During her break, she was seen joining the England Rugby Union team for a practice session, celebrating her 23rd birthday, and much more.

After withdrawing from the exhibition events in Miami and Newark, it was reported that Raducanu will train in Barcelona with her coach, Francisco Roig, who resides there. Before appointing the Spaniard, the former US Open champion had worked with several coaches, including Nick Cavaday, Nigel Sears, Andrew Richardson, Torben Beltz, Dmitry Tursunov, Sebastian Sachs, and Mark Petchey.

Roig joined Raducanu’s team in August 2025 during the North American hard-court swing. He has an impressive coaching background, having worked with Rafael Nadal from 2005 to 2022 and then with Matteo Berrettini from December 2023 to October 2024.

According to reports, Raducanu has also appointed Emma Stewart as her new physiotherapist, who will manage her strength and conditioning program. Stewart has previously worked with the WTA and is currently working with the men’s squad at British Rowing.

This year, Raducanu’s best result was reaching the semifinals at the Citi DC Open. She also had quarterfinal runs at the Miami Open and the Queen’s Club Championships. At the Grand Slam tournaments, she reached the third round at the Australian Open, Wimbledon Championships, and the US Open. She was eliminated in the second round at the French Open.

Raducanu’s First Tournament of 2026 Will Be United Cup

Raducanu will begin her 2026 season by representing Great Britain at the United Cup, scheduled to take place from Jan. 2 to Jan. 11, 2026. The matches will be held in Perth at the RAC Arena and in Sydney at the Ken Rosewall Arena.

“I’m honored to be able to make my United Cup debut in January. Being able to play for Team GB with my teammates is a unique opportunity and a week to enjoy. It’s great to experience a new format on tour, represent my country and spend a couple of extra weeks in Australia,” Raducanu said.

Team Great Britain has been placed in Group E, alongside Team Japan and Team Greece, and they will compete in Perth. The British team will consist of three male players and three female players: Raducanu, Jack Draper, Billy Harris, Mimi Xu, Lloyd Glasspool, and Olivia Nicholls.
