Jessica Pegula Steps In To Join Carlos Alcaraz and Others After Emma Raducanu Abandons Miami, New Jersey Exhibitions

Emma Raducanu opts to miss the upcoming exhibition events in Miami and New Jersey with Jessica Pegula coming in as a replacement.

British tennis star and former Grand Slam champion Emma Raducanu has suffered yet another injury setback, forcing her to withdraw from next month’s exhibition matches in New Jersey and Miami.

The Briton, who was slated to face Amanda Anisimova, has been sidelined after being diagnosed with light bruising on her right foot. Jessica Pegula will step in as her replacement and join other stars, such as Carlos Alcaraz, in the events.

Jessica Pegula Comes In As Replacement After Emma Raducanu’s Setback

The 2025 season fell short of Raducanu’s expectations, and she closed it with a 28–22 record. Quarterfinal runs in Miami and at Queen’s Club, along with a semifinal appearance in Washington, D.C., were the few bright spots in an otherwise uneven year. Her campaign came to an early end in mid-October after physical issues forced her to withdraw from the race against Ann Li in Wuhan.

Her most recent appearance came at the Ningbo Open, where she lost to Lin Zhu in three sets and exited the event. The Briton hasn’t played yet and was set to participate in upcoming U.S. exhibition matches alongside Carlos Alcaraz, Amanda Anisimova, Frances Tiafoe, and rising Brazilian João Fonseca.

As her appearances in New Jersey and Miami approached, a minor foot injury forced Raducanu to withdraw from the events. Despite the setback, she is reportedly able to train and will head to Barcelona for a pre-season training block, aiming to regain full fitness ahead of the 2026 season.

Following Raducanu’s withdrawal, another American star, Pegula, will step in for the events at Prudential Center, Newark, on December 7, and at loanDepot Park, Miami, on December 8. The World No. 6 will face compatriot Amanda Anisimova at both venues, while Carlos Alcaraz is set to take on Frances Tiafoe in New Jersey and João Fonseca in Miami.

Pegula last competed at the WTA Finals in Riyadh and finished as a semifinalist after falling to eventual champion Elena Rybakina in three sets. The American completed the season with a 53-23 win-loss record and earned over $5.2 million.
