Emma Raducanu stepped onto the court at Flushing Meadows with something she hasn’t felt in years: genuine confidence.
Two dominant wins later, the 2021 champion is finally explaining what changed everything.
How Has Emma Raducanu Rediscovered Her Winning Formula?
Raducanu continued her impressive form at the US Open 2025 with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 victory over Indonesia’s Janice Tjen. The win marked her second dominant performance in as many matches, following her first-round dismissal of Japan’s Ena Shibahara 6-1, 6-2.
Following her advancement to the third round at Flushing Meadows, the British star revealed the strategy that has enabled her return to top-tier tennis after struggling with inconsistent form for several years.
When asked what had changed compared to last year, Raducanu pointed to a more stable approach to her training and the growing influence of her support team.
“I think first of all it’s the consistency of putting together good practice days,” she explained. “After Miami, I put in some really solid work, and over the last few weeks, I feel like I’ve stepped up both on and off the court. That’s made a big difference.”
The 2021 US Open champion admitted that learning to trust her preparation helped her handle the pressure of competing on big stages.
“I’m really happy with the people I have in my corner, and I’m grateful for everything they’re doing. Putting trust in the work we do behind the scenes takes some of the pressure off. Of course, whenever you walk into a big stadium, you feel it, but I try to channel that into something positive,” she said.
For Raducanu, the focus remains on steady progress rather than immediate results. “I’m just looking forward to building day by day and doing my best. That’s all I can really control,” she added.
Currently ranked No. 36 in the world, the British player has been slowly building momentum this season.
What Makes Emma Raducanu Believe Bigger Results Are Coming?
Following her first-round victory against Shibahara, which was her first win at the US Open since her title run in 2021, Raducanu expressed hope that bigger results are around the corner.
The British tennis star said, “I’m very pleased to have won that match. It’s my first win here since 2021. So it’s extra special. I’m very happy. I’ve got amazing people in my corner there. I wanna thank them.”
Raducanu’s steady climb up the rankings ladder through consistent results suggests that a breakthrough might be approaching.
She said, “It makes every day. The work feels a lot more enjoyable. I see the progress I’m making on the practice court. It might not come straight away, but I know overtime I’m just racking up good days, building. I feel like it has to go somewhere.”
Beyond her singles success, Raducanu partnered with Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open mixed doubles event. However, the duo fell in their opening match to Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula in just 51 minutes, scoring 4-2, 4-2.
