The contest lasted two hours and 31 minutes, with both players showing exceptional fight. Navarro claimed the first set 7-5, using her trademark variety to unsettle Putintseva early on. The Kazakhstani star then dominated the second set, winning it convincingly 6-2 in just under 30 minutes to take control of the match.

However, Navarro showed tremendous resilience in the deciding set. After Putintseva broke early for a 2-0 lead, the American battled back to level the set and force a tiebreak. At 6-4 in the tiebreaker, Putintseva held two match points but couldn’t convert either one. Navarro then reeled off four straight points to close out the dramatic victory and give Team USA a 1-0 lead in the tie.

The USA went on to defeat Kazakhstan 2-1. Jessica Pegula and Taylor Townsend won the decisive doubles match 6-2, 7-6(1) after Elena Rybakina had leveled the tie by beating Pegula 6-4, 6-1.

This victory sent America into the Billie Jean King Cup semifinals for the first time since 2021. The USA will now face either Japan or Great Britain in Saturday’s semifinal, while Italy takes on Ukraine in Friday’s other semifinal match.
