Ukraine made history at the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Finals as they reached their first-ever semifinal. While Spain fell short, Paula Badosa’s comeback became the real highlight. Back after a long injury break, she fought hard and later shared some inspiring words about moving past setbacks and focusing on the future.
Paula Badosa Sends a Message After Her Injury Comeback
Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk and Elina Svitolina put on a good fight at the BJK Cup quarterfinal. Kostyuk had a 7-6 (7/3), 6-2 win over Jessica Bouzas Maneiro before Svitolina beat Badosa, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5.
Team Ukraine advanced to its first-ever semifinal, where it will face defending champions Italy. For Spain, the early exit was disappointing, but Badosa’s return after nearly three months out was a big positive.
Although she reached the semifinals of the 2025 Australian Open, Badosa’s overall season has been tough, with lingering issues from a psoas tear in her back. Her Wimbledon run ended in the first round after she lost to Katie Boulter.
The Billie Jean King Cup gave the Spaniard a chance to comeback. Even though she lost, Badosa shared some heartfelt stories on Instagram about her return and time with the Spanish team. She thanked her fans, writing, “Thank you all for your immense support. Nothing beats the feeling of stepping into a court. I’m back and stronger than ever.”

She also sent a message to her teammates, writing, “Thank you girls for this week. It has been a pleasure to be able to share it with you. We will keep fighting and come back stronger.”

She also credited her coach, Pol Toledo Bagué, for his support during her rehab phase. Badosa wrote, “And of course @pol.toledo thanks for always being there. It’s been very very tough journey but you never stopped believing and always been there with a smile. always in my team.”

In a lighter touch, she also remarked that her fan-loved social media quotes were returning.

She wrote, “I’m back and quotes are back too,” while sharing a picture of her tennis racket that had a sticker on it that says, “Winners are made in the moments they refuse to give up.”
Badosa Looks Ahead for a Better 2026
After Spain’s exit, Badosa admitted the loss hurt, but said she was proud to be back with her team. “Of course I’m sad that we lost as a team. I’m really proud of myself because I gave my all. It was a game of margins. It was very tight at the end. I think we both played at a very good level,” she said.
Talking about her performance after a comeback from injury, the Spaniard said, “In my case after two months and a half outside of competition, coming back at this level, playing against I think she’s top 12 in the world, for me means a lot. It gives me motivation to continue on all this faith that I have the level to be there again.”
Even before the BJK Cup match, Badosa said during the media interaction at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre Arena that her focus is now on the long run. “I am starting anew now, I am returning, but I know that the season will also end soon. I try to feel the best I can, although honestly, my goal is to already look towards 2026,” she said (via Marca).
