Jannik Sinner Has Awkward Exchange With Reporter After Madrid Open Win

Following his win over Møller in the third round of the Madrid Open, Sinner was asked about his proficiency in Spanish. The Italian revealed that he was trying to improve his skills and hinted that he might use the language-learning apps Duolingo and Babbel.

“It’s not good yet, but my goal is to speak in one year. I’m trying to learn. I also have an Argentinian physio, which helps for sure. I understand a little bit but cannot speak yet. I still need to find out. Duolingo and the other one is Babbel, no?” Sinner said.

The interviewer thought he had said Bumble, which is a dating app. Sinner was quick to correct him, saying he didn’t need a dating app.

“No, Babbel. Anyways, not the dating app; I don’t need the dating app,” Sinner said while laughing.

Sinner is currently in a relationship with Laila Hasanovic, who is a social media influencer. Hasanovic is often seen sitting in Sinner’s box during his matches. She cheered him on as he won the Monte-Carlo Masters earlier this month. The two have been in a relationship since the middle of last year.

Meanwhile, Sinner will return to the court on Tuesday for his Round-of-16 match at the Madrid Open. He could face Cameron Norrie or Thiago Agustín Tirante in the fourth round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament.

Sinner had a shaky start to his Madrid Open campaign, losing the first set of his second-round match against Benjamin Bonzi. But he bounced back and won the next two sets comfortably before claiming a straightforward victory against Møller on Sunday.

The 24-year-old is the favorite to win the Madrid Open this year. However, he has never made it past the quarterfinals of the tournament. Next week will certainly be a big test of Sinner’s clay-court skills as he looks to continue his dominance and add another title to his locker.
