Ben Shelton and his girlfriend, soccer star Trinity Rodman, are making the most of their overlapping schedules in Washington, D.C. After Rodman made an appearance at the Mubadala DC Open venue to show her support for Shelton, the world No. 6 returned the gesture by cheering her on during the Washington Spirit’s home game against Denver Summit FC.

Shelton has endured a tumultuous 2026 season, acknowledging that it has featured “a lot of highs, a lot of lows.” Although the 23-year-old has won three titles, one on each surface, he has also struggled with disappointing early exits at important events. The most recent setback occurred at Wimbledon, as he crashed out of the grass-court Major in the first round just two weeks after his triumph at the BOSS Open.
Shelton will be looking to turn his fortunes around at the ATP 500 event in Washington, D.C. He has been putting in the work to gear up for his campaign, with Trinity Rodman joining him at a recent practice session to show her support.
Ahead of his opening match, Shelton took some time out to visit Audi Field and cheer on Rodman as she suited up for the Washington Spirit against the Denver Summit. The couple appeared in high spirits as they shared a lighthearted conversation on the sidelines before kickoff.

Shelton was joined by fellow tennis stars Hailey Baptiste and Arthur Fils, and the trio celebrated enthusiastically when Rodman set up Sofia Cantore for a stellar goal. With the 1-0 win, the Spirit maintained their top spot in the NWSL standings.

No. 2 seed Ben Shelton will now turn his attention to his opening match against fellow American Martin Damm Jr. If he wins, the 23-year-old will face either Andres Martin or Ugo Humbert in the second round, with Frances Tiafoe looming as his potential quarterfinal opponent.
No. 8 seed Fils, meanwhile, will take on Rafael Jódar in a blockbuster first-round showdown. The winner is set to meet either Kei Nishikori or Shang Juncheng in the second round. If Fils makes it to the semifinals, he could set up a high-profile battle with Shelton at the DC Open.
On the other hand, Baptiste has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2026 season after sustaining damage to her meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a devastating injury at the French Open.
