Daniil Medvedev Involved in Emotional Scenes With Daughters and Wife As He Dedicates Almaty Title to Baby Victoria

Daniil Medvedev dedicated his first title since June 2023 to his daughter

Daniil Medvedev capped off an emotional week in Kazakhstan with a touching family celebration, ending his title drought in style. The former World No. 1 clinched his first ATP title in more than two years at the 2025 Almaty Open, defeating France’s Corentin Moutet 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in a gripping two-hour and 29-minute final.

As soon as the final point was won, Medvedev sprinted toward his box to embrace his wife Daria and their two daughters, Alisa and Victoria, before dedicating the win to his newborn second daughter.

Daniil Medvedev’s Perseverance from Runner-Up Finishes to Almaty Triumph

Since capturing the 2023 Italian Open title in Rome, the 29-year-old has endured physical setbacks and visible frustrations on court. Despite those challenges, he remained a consistent contender, reaching several finals, including the 2023 US Open, China Open, and Vienna Open. In 2024, Medvedev finished runner-up at both the Australian Open and Indian Wells, only to fall just short again.

Earlier this season, he also finished runner-up at the Halle Open, losing to Alexander Bublik. These near-misses only made his triumph in Almaty more meaningful.

Making his debut appearance at the ATP 250 event in Almaty, Medvedev entered the tournament as the second seed and received a bye in the opening round. From there, he delivered a strong series of performances, overcoming Adam Walton, Fábián Marozsán, and James Duckworth to reach the championship match.

Against eighth seed Moutet, Medvedev pulled through in three sets to capture his 21st career ATP singles title.

How Did Medvedev Dedicate His Emotional Almaty Victory to His Family?

During his winner’s speech, Medvedev dedicated the victory to his youngest daughter, Victoria, who was born earlier this year. “I want to thank my family,” Medvedev said.

“It’s the first time that I won a tournament with my two daughters and my wife together, so to get a title, it’s really nice. This title is in honor of my second daughter, Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her, so this one’s for Victoria,” he added.

Medvedev, who married his longtime partner Daria Medvedeva in Moscow on September 12, 2018, has often credited her for being a constant source of stability in his career. Daria, a former junior tennis player herself, is often seen supporting him from the stands during major tournaments. The couple welcomed their first child, Alisa, in October 2022, followed by their second daughter, Victoria, in January 2025.
